The layerfx-plugin is great, and combines lots of neat layer effects in the same plugin, with neat interfaces. However, the bevel in that plugin was sometimes not what I wanted... so I created my own bevel, the selection bevel plugin which a lot of you know already.

I'm not always satisfied with the inner/outer glow either... often times, the glows the layerfx script creates are too "jagged" and need to be blurred manually after.

Well, without further ado, here's my version of the inner/outer glow, called Selection glow - as it uses the selection. The usage of this script should be easy enough for those who are already familiar with my selection bevel, as it's function is similar in many ways. Try it out.

As always, feedback is welcome.

The zipped file is attached below.

Examples of inner and outer glows (with hardlight mode, width 4, feather 10, no noise, 100 opacity, light cyan colour):

Here's an example of me using all my scripts in one text effect - it has inner/outer bevels and glows + texture on bg and text.

I did all of dd's scripts on this one. Then duplicated the image layer and colorized it. I tried several different layer modes over the original orange one and came up with some interesting results.

I made it a gif and an apng.

I tried attaching it to my post here but it says extensions .py and .txt are not allowed...

Thanks O! Can you edit my first post and add the attachment there?

I'll be uploading this to the registry, but I'm thinking of adding some features first... an ability to use a pattern instead of colour for the glow, for one.

Done!

Whoa, I like the idea to use a pattern for the glow.

Thanks, dd. I wasn't sure how well an indexed gif would look but it's not bad at all. Some can't see animated pngs.

Apng is a vastly superior format to animated gif... I just wish more browsers would support it.

Did you convert your images to indexed before saving as gif? I've found to get best results that way, rather than directly saving rgb images to gifs.

Gif images always make me feel nostalgic btw... I remember the times when 256 colours was all we had (on a 320x200 resolution!) and Doom was the coolest game ever made... ;)

I did. There are choices in there the help make it a better gif.

Why doesn't someone make LGIF? Large GIF? Since I don't know what GIF stands for. But it would be like APNG, but would be formatted more like GIF so browsers would know the difference, just it would have more colors, and no or less compression.

Is that even Possible?

That's basically what PNG is.

And GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format, btw.

...funnily enough, PNG stands for PNG is Not Gif

I am saying for Animation, I know there is APNG, but they said it isn't supported by many browsers.
So could there be like a LGIF to replace APNG and just be formated like GIF, but with more Colors and less Compresion

I was going to suggest adding it as a zip.
Cool results O! :)

dd patterns as a inner/outer glow sounds pretty cool too.
I can't wait to check it out.
