Version 3 allows for option to get an inverted Stamp (solid fill stamp with transparent text).

Thanks Issabella, That's a nice use (not a fake passport, lol).

I was wondering with version 4, there's option to leave mask unapplied so that you can manually use a different mask for distressed effect.
If you find a good or better (1000x1000px) .png to use as distressed mask please share.
I am only about 65% happy with the distressed .png that I got in the plug-in. I think it could look much better but I find it hard to create distressed png.

Interesting and cool looking old stamp plug-in Tim, thank you. I've been manufacturing stamps for profession so I'm going to test it out asap.
I'm calling it old because in modern laser stamp making you wouldn't have any of those intermitted lines before your stamp starts to seriously wear out.
Negative version is not normally recommended. There's kind of a rejection problem with colours attaching to larger surface but it gets better after the stamp has been used some time. In the case of self-inking stamps, that are more popular today than wood knob and a separate pad negative version also consumes more ink, and ruins the pad faster.

I don't have any stamps handy now, but will certainly get back to this topic with some output and possible update ideas.
There is that "Grungy Stamp" script for 2.6 and 2.8, haven't fixed it for 2.10 yet.

Here is a distressed texture for the plug-in. It was done by using 40x40mm untreated laser stamp rubber piece from Colop (Big Austrian stamp manufacturer) and violet stamp ink.
The rubber block was pressed several times on normal printing paper without reapplying colour to get a faded version.
After scanning I desaturated the result and used brightness/contrast to get rid of the mid-tones to make it suit better for the plug-in.
In the download archive are the original textures, in jpg format because png went over 6MB.

There is no toggle option yet. In the pop-up window select:
Merge down: no
Leave mask unapplied: yes
Then lock alpha channel, pick the colour you want and use bucket fill on the Work Layer.

or you can do what I learned from rich2005 on a video of his to change color a copied selection.
Let it merge and all that then copy (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) the whole thing and choose brush (select the 2nd brush which is the "Clipboard Mask" brush, the 1st one if the "Clipboard Image" brush, so select the 2nd one). Then change your foreground color to any color you want and start stamping/brushing away with that foreground color.

Lovely plugin.
It crashes when I try to enter something with German Umlauts like cityname Würzburg or Köln or so.
Is there a way to enter those, too?

Regards
nelo

This is an old problem with a simple solution.
The text field requires UTF encoding - so for a non-English version you need to add:

   pdb.gimp_context_push()

   #core code goes here/below
   top_text = top_text.decode("utf-8")
   middle_text = middle_text.decode("utf-8")
   bottom_text = bottom_text.decode("utf-8")

   width, height = 1000, 1000
