This update adds a new 'box' style emboss to the filter.

Download, extract and install in your user plug-ins folder.

The box emboss style works better on custom fonts that do not have thick and thin strokes. There are options for adjusting both width and depth with the box effect - a ratio of twice the width to the depth seems to work well, but it may be necessary to use a small amount of artifact blur with the biggest widths.

Open a custom font file, set the preview to 'Yes' to assess the result on a single character (in a new image) and click on 'OK'.

The new options provide some scope for increasing the width of the box edging:

To create a more interesting effect you can make set of inner panels by trimming off the outer area of a copy of the same custom font with the trim option in Custom Font Layer Utils.

Save this panel file, apply colour and effects to it and combine the two custom font files with the combine options in Custom Font FaceMaker.

In the example below a simple contrasting colour has been applied to the 'panel'.

You can be as decorative as you wish in the embellishing of the panels - here the Bevel Reflect effect has been applied before combining the panel with the original characters.

A further couple of examples of recent custom fonts that were created with a box and panel method. The lower example has had a larger area trimmed away to make room for a drop shadow glow (another FaceMaker option).
