Does anyone know of one available? I found this page, and it has the download for the source code, but I have no idea how to convert that to a script file. No programmer here. Can I just save the c source to an .scm file in notepad? I'm clueless. http://sites.inka.de/sites/bunsen/alex/ ... mp/3d.html

Not sure. I'd really like to know a good way to make depth maps as well.

Magiceye was already compiled for windows. :)

It is a little deprecated though.

Sure is. I can't even get it to work. Does anyone know a good, free program to make depth maps with?

Here's a program that can take photos and make depth maps out of them: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68860

It's only as good as the photo being used really but sometimes you can get a pretty good image.

Warrior your image has to be in grayscale mode to work.
1 top layer as depth map
1 image grayscale.

Image>Mode>grayscale

Filters>Render>magiceye > add your values click ok.

Just look online for the free Stereogram Maker program (very lightweight)
It supports bitmap range images and 3d DXF files as depth maps, can create texture images if you don't have
those. Very reliable, easy to use. If you failed to find it, I can upload it here.

Mentioned this on the earlier thread a few days ago. You first create your target pattern layer (set with to be the width that you desire; I like 120px; the height being the height you want the final result to be (a little taller then the depth map is wise). The depthmap target has to be true greyscale (Image>mode>greyscale). Now, clicking on the depthmap, run the plugin. Since there's been a lot of changes since magiceye was first created, you will get errors popup window; ignore/close). Done. Still works quite well in my GIMP 2.8.6 64-bit. :)

edit:

Hint: best to have you pattern target be horizontally seamless prior to running plugin; gives you cleaner results. :)

Well, it's been a while; just tried this plugin and now fails miserable. Anyone know a GIMP plugin that can still render the Magiceye Stereograms? :)

Must be missing some files on my new PC since all I get is errors. Will try to figure out the issue when I'm less tired. Glad it still works for you. :)

Edit; you are right, Pocholo; still works. Forgot that the pattern cannot have an alpha channel. :)

hi there,

also in 2024 there is still some interest for autostereograms.
However the link by "Rod" that was posted here doesnt work anymore.
Any other suggestions how to get the plugin or is there a newer way to create those images?

:tyspin
