This update allows for a greater range of layers to be used for each file generated (5 - 50) which I think will work better with larger custom font image sizes - otherwise the dialog remains exactly the same as in version 01.

Download, unzip and place the filter in your Gimp user plug-ins folder.

I have outlined a strategy to use with the plug-in in the pdf below (it is too wordy to include here).

:clap :yes
Thank you so much Skinnyhouse. You have got with your last plug-ins we have much easier to split the large custom fonts in the correct number files.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

I hope it is of some use to you Issabella.
Sadly I can find no easy answer to fully automating the process using Gimp scripting tools.
Of course you do build up a feel for how certain custom fonts and decorative finishes can be split up.
Some textures and effects compress much better than others.

I did a little test based on your Longdom custom font using the same edge with a two tone inner panel given a quick shine effect:

The file info below shows that the uncompressed file is not much smaller (4 Mb) than the original but it has a much better compression rate - almost halving the size of the file.
