a quick and simple script request

what I have is a whole bunch of this in a .bmp:

And what I need is to

select the right half (some pictures are different sizes)
invert the colors
copy it
invert the selection
crop it
create a layer mask
past it
and save as a .png
and end kinda like this http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3715/maskedimage.png (except cropped)

I have no clue what to look for as far as a script to do this, are there any scripts that could do this (or part of this?)

Oh shi- I misread your post as a straight up conversion from .bmp to .png i'm sorry
where am I supposed to put the .scm file?

Anyway, I'm not good with gimp or scripting so probably a little bit from A, a little bit from B since I have nothing to really offer here.

The file would go in your USERFOLDER/.gimp-2.6/Scripts folder Zibbazabba.

I apologize for the brusqueness of my previous post (I blame the cough syrup) but I'm glad things are working for you. Kudos on providing a good, step-by-step description of what you were doing*; this makes writing such scripts pretty trivial.

* Though I did not follow your step exactly, it was easier to create a mask of the entire layer and then shift it into position than to copy-n-paste.
