Gimp has many wonderful scripts and plugins for animation GAP,Lightbox, and all the wonderful animation tools created by Ofnuts, yet there is one really tedious task alot of traditional animators do that seems like there should be an easier method. thats coloring in frames with paintbucket tool one frame at a time.
I know that you cannot select two layers to fill at once when animating yet it seems the task could be automated a bit by specifying a location on the layer screen then applying that same location for the paintbucket tool on the other layers filling them in faster then a human could. being able to pic from which layer to other layer fill in would be helpful to. Is such a thing possible? maybe using paths or selections, if someone has another idea of how something like multifill might be possible. If anyone wants to help I'd be greatful. thank you ; :paint

Are you talking about filling in the background of each frame?

Unless the animator clicks duplicate layer they have to color the next frame to match the previous frame the verry bottom layer labelled background layer contains the background image usually like plants sunset etc scenery. the actual character usually exists on transparent layers above the background they usaull consist of lineart that is enclosed to allow the paint bucket tool to color characters quickly.
so Im talking about filling in a transparent layer no gap lineart with paint bucket. youtube has examples yet being new I cant post external links it seems. lol I appreciate you asking thanks

After you make your next post, then you will be able to post your images.
There is a nice script written by saulgoode that combines background. It will fill all your layers with the background color...http://chiselapp.com/user/saulgoode/rep ... combine-bg
I don't know if this helps or not but it is a very handy script to have.

contains some examples 11:12 of bottom youtube link shows the coloring on that longer video(although they use green screen instead of transparent layer probably for chromakeying). gimp already has some advantages like path based animation simular to a vector program Id really like to see gimp used more for animation.:)

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but for quick colorizing have a look at, G'MIC filter 'Colors / Recolorize'. It's a beauty!
