It's been a while since I gimped for fun, that's because I've been really busy with the release of my roomies book. I've done the proofreading on it and, of course, the cover. It was just released on Amazon for Kindle and we're hoping it will take off and be a smashing success. Of course in doing this, there was little time for anything else for a while. I'm sure, in time, the gimping mood will strike again though.

Thanks, yeah. I like to work with big canvas for covers like this because it shows up crisper once you upload it with the ebook. Amazon's dimension requirements for Kindle start at a 2000px tall minimum, so you can imagine...

It was a very good cover, a climate mysterious, enigmatic.
It reminded me a bit of The Hound of Baskerville, of Conan Doyle!
Success and the coming of the second book!

Good job on the cover, ek22! :bigthup
It not as easy as it seems to make a book cover these days especially when dealing with different retailers.

In case anyone's interested in what's involved.
eBook Cover Size Requirements / Specifications (general info 2013)
Ebook Cover Design and Optimum Size Specifications for Amazon, Kindle, B&N... (general info 2012)

I wish you had posted these a few months ago. I could've used them myself. :P

No one's ever complained about my covers being too big. Although, much unlike the graphic artists mentioned in that first blog post. I don't charge for a resize to specs. I'm lucky if I charge anything at all. lol

All in all, cover designs are sort of a semi-legit way for me to get away with playing with gimp and possibly make some beer money.

I've had one out for a couple months. I'm working on the sequel now.

I think you got one of the most important specs down well - readability from a small image.

Here's the official synopsis that went on the back cover.

Deep within the world of Caelus lies the divided, Elven Imperial city of Belshalara, a city saturated in sex, violence, and corruption. At the heart of this corruption is the Flesh Quarter, ruled by Marquis Lillandyr Shadowglade. The Flesh Quarter is also rife with illicit drugs supplied by Kia Sin'del, boss of the criminal element.

Lillandyr, in order to obtain something she desires, makes a deal with an associate. She must fetch an idol from the dangerous Hidden Quarter, the underground city below Belshalara. She sends Kia Sin'del and the pirate Captain, Anryn Stormcrow to retrieve it while she remains in the city to herald in the Feast of Saint Baellith, patron god of her Quarter.

The Feast Day quickly approaches and all within the city of Belshalara are preparing for the great celebration. It is a day where the Lady Shadowglade makes a sacrifice of herself and lays with a man the oracle of her god chooses in front of her people. Her longtime colleague, Meriweather Osterious intends on being that man. Through dark magic and manipulations of the gods themselves, Merris Osterious contrives a way for his name to be called.

Meanwhile, Anryn Stormcrow and Kia Sin’del fight for their lives in the Underground as they try to escape with the idol.

As the Feast draws to a close, events are set into motion that forever change the city and the world itself.
