I like to take part in a photo challenge site DPChallenge. This week one of the challenges is to take a self portrait. For a change it's under the Expert Editing rules, which is basically "anything goes so long as I take all the photos required"

Now I don't usually like the expert editing challenges but I'm feeling inclined to have a go this time. One idea I've had is to take a standard (and very boring) portrait and manipulate it to make a more artistic version but I'm not an artist - which is where you come in.

I'm looking for examples to steal be inspired by ;)

I'll have to take a new self-portrait, but in the mean-time what would you do with this?

I really did quickly ,only to illustrate a simple concept :
crop away all what not strictly needed, and if you don't have a very adapt BG ,darken (or blur) all the rest

Sorry for your skin i planned that settings for large images to be rescaled after (i used Graphic Novel and the effect of one of its main component is highly dependent from image size, more are little more is rough ) and your was not large , neither to be down-scaled after

If you want may post the original xcf , also because has the settings used embedded in the layer name

For my result you need Adaptative Contrast Enhancement (see below).

Duplicate your pic.
Apply ACE to your duplicated pic with the values of this tut. Also Photocomix Smooth settings.
After this, apply a bit of selective gaussian blur.
Set this layer in Lighten only mode.
Go to G'mic, select new layer as output. Apply Relief light (default values)[lights & shadows] and set this layer in Lighten only mode, opacity 25 %.

Duplicate the original pic, move it to the top and apply High pass filter radius=4, uncheck Keep the original layer, set the layer in Soft light mode, opacity 65 %.
