I've been doing a bit of soul searching for a few weeks about "What kind of artist am I?", I know I'm not a "realism" artist, I know I'm not a "painter" although I use paint, and I don't think I'm a "Cartoonist".
I like to use both Digital and Traditional mediums....So I after much trying to find the right word decided that I think I'm a "Mixed Media Illustrator", or maybe I should say an aspiring illustrator...I don't know when titles become official! xD

Sooooo my idea for this topic is to soul search and find ourselves in our artworks, what are we? I think with such an array of different styles it's nice to know who we are in the mix of all the styles.
Each person defines their own style within a style but still if you were to be tagged as a specific style, what would it be?
If you aren't sure, make up a name, something new is always cool!

It might go for a good conversation!

I suppose you could call me a fantasy artist although my style is a bit different to classic fantasy art (mainly because I'm not up to that standard and I cut a lot of corners) I do other stuff as well though.

I'm gonna be honest. I'm awful with a pencil or paper or watercolor. Any traditional medium where I have to start with a blank sheet is torture for me. But I like art. I like to look at art and listen to art and experience it. I like to talk to artists because wherever all that art came from, there's more in their heads than out on paper, always.

If I had to define what I do, I guess I put things in an order that's pleasing to the eye. Mine, maybe yours. Maybe I used your photo and made something else out of it. I don't mind talking about it. I like showing it off. It's like my inner 5 year old comes out and I want to shout "Look what I can do!"

Sometimes people are impressed, a lot of other times I'm the only one. That's okay. Even though I do a lot of commercial pieces now in form of book covers for kindle, I still feel like I work mostly for my own amusement. So what does that make me? Professional Inner Child? Yeah, perhaps I'll call it that.

Don't really consider myself an artist Moko. Someone once described what I do as an experimental retoucher and I liked that. I actually came up with the description of Photoartography but I will admit someone else may have thought up this term even though I did so in 2004. lol

I cannot think of being any kind of artist, more like a graphics fiddler. I usually have a reason to make something, like an invitation for a friend, etc., but I rarely do graphics just for the sake of art. I am not good at coming up with my own ideas, but am best at taking someone else's idea and making it better. So I fiddle around with gimp when I have a project to work on or a tutorial I want to follow. I so admire all those who are artistic.

"Hobbyist". I don't really consider myself as an artist, more of a mathematician/educator who likes to do art as a hobby. Except for my blog, and a few scraps on deviantART, none of my writing is online - but there's a lot of that as well.

Art-wise, I'm a hobbyist digital painter.

fun topic! i've never really liked the words "art" and "artist" (because i really don't like having to define them, give it a serious try one day and you'll probably end up agreeing with me!) so i wouldn't use them about myself. i know i'm a compulsive picture maker, though . i love pictures and think about them a lot and try to make my own, whether it's with camera, touchpad, pen, needle and thread, glue, paper and scissors or whatever. i like making them with my words too. i'm also a compulsive embellisher and pattern maker, i really love decorating stuff and i love patterned surfaces and making my own patterns to cover surfaces. and then of course i'm a "craftist" - i sew, bead and hammer soft metals into new shapes. i'd do a lot more of all that if i had the time and money and energy because crafts is my way of reminding myself life is after all quite lovely.

Define my style ?
I am a explorer , exploring i may stumble on old paths , as in my series of "remakes " of Flemish painters, or in newer as organic 3D fractals ... i love Chaos and Symmetries ,and discover and create symmetries in chaos and chaos in symmetries.
and create series that are also stories ...

but would like reverse the question :
i feel caged by tags and categories , alas nowadays properly tag and categorize seem essential to share art and whatelse

How you would define my style ?

Hmm. I don't do art, unless there is such a concept as a script artist... I do some photography, but I think it's closer to camera onanism than to art.

PC, I define your style exactly as you do..and artistic explorer and scout I say scout because you often blaze new trails in your art (and story telling), and have taken me down many interesting paths.

After much pondering, I don't really know if I have a style or not, I know I am influenced by the things I enjoy so drawing,Technical drawing and maths to come into effect in a lot of images I create. I also like to experiment with colour wheel combinations and most work uses some sort of composition grid to determine placement of objects.
At the moment I tend to just create single object items on backgrounds with possibly a phrase or quote. So that’s my style.

I would definitely pick "Hobbyist" as one category that defines me but not sure of any others.

I'm just someone who found that it's a lot of fun to mess around with digital images. But if I was to place myself in a category then I would opt for photo-manipulator as that's what I often end up doing.

I don't consider myself an artist, in terms of being a painter/illustrator, although I do think the style of some of my renders/designs is recognizable as being created by me. What that style might be, I haven't a clue.

I do consider myself an artist, in the sense of being a musician, arranger and song writer. Musically, my style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock and blues.
