The top of some bolded texts cut off.
For example, the English111 Vivace BT font gets cut off on the top as it becomes bolded. If the text isn't bolded, it's fine.
How do I fix this issue?

I can only speak for 2.6 and I know there are differences with 2.8 but you you should be able to take hold of a corner of the text "window" and stretch it to reveal more of the font.

Yes and in 2.8, you just enlarge the text box the same way. Just pull the handles up or down and you will see all your text.

Try adjusting the, Layer Boundary Size.

grooter: of course you can try changing the layer boundary in case that's a problem, but there is a bug with the text tool in 2.8 on windows that does exactly what you describe. i know it's been up for discussion here on gimp chat before (http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6274&start=10) and it doesn't seem like it's going to get fixed. it has to do with windows coding, not really with gimp, it seems. my solution has been to select the text, then make a path from the selection and change the path til i get something that looks right.

Some fonts act like spoiled step children in gimp. If the typeface gets cut off at the top, try converting the font to a different font type (ttf to open, etc) I've had fonts get fuzzy on me, ignore they were supposed to be a lot fancier than arial and as you mentioned, some got cut off, usually at the top, but I had one that went way left too. Converted them to open online and that fixed the problems. It's worth a shot if this problem persists. This is the one I used.

I just had a thought, are you trying to force bold using English 111 Vivace BT Regular? If so that would be a good reason why it's not looking right.
