Thanks for the kind words. That is a rather old script and is due for an update (maybe next weekend :) ).

Just a warning to people who might just randomly download scripts:

If you have FX Foundry loaded, check under File-Create-FX Foundry-Animation-Letter Drop before downloading this script. You may already have it.

mahvin,
On my system it was located in Filters > FX-Foundry > Animation > Letter Drop

Yeah, I've been discovering stuff I didn't even know I had by trying out all these scripts only to have conflicts arrive (most are due to FX Foundry already having them loaded).

I love these things. I could play for hours on end.

Hmm. Parts of my post didn't make it for some reason.

@molly,
I don't know if this is the same version of the script you have, but this one (which is part of the FX-Foundry) allows you to choose the starting and ending font sizes. Is that the way yours is?

@saulgoode,
Is this your script, or has it been modded? Just curious.

I have never downloaded scripts from FX Foundry so I don't know to what extent the script has been modified. My understanding is that the FX Foundry does not generally change scripts much beyond moving the commands' locations in the menus, though it is most certainly acceptable if they make more extensive modifications to any scripts I've written.

My version of the script was inspired by a PERL-fu plug-in written by Ky MacPherson. Ky's original webpage no longer exists but here is a snapshot from the (wonderful) Internet Archive.

As of the last couple of years, I've adopted the practice of prepending an "sg-" to the filenames of all my scripts, and naming procedures added by the scripts so they start with "script-fu-sg-". The intent in this is to facilitate modified versions being offered by other people without those versions conflicting with my versions (if both happen to be installed). I would encourage anyone to customize or modify my scripts so that they best suit their needs, however, if the modified versions are shared publicly, I am hoping that my initials ("sg") would be replaced.

I've have also been gradually migrating my scripts from my Flashing Twelve webspace to my Chiselapp WIKI, which is a Fossil repository that provides a much more organized approach to maintaining them.

That's cool, I'd love to figure out how you did this. (I know how to do it manually, but that'd be time consuming)

@molly,
Right. On my "Amazing!" example (hehe) I started at 144 and ended at 72. I might have a bad setting in Gimp itself as the ending size is supposed to be 72, which should be 1" but it measures only 1/2" on the screen.

okay, so you say the starting and the ending font should be the same size... that is what puzzles me. Don't we want the font to be the same size right across the whole line? If so why is the default ending about 1/2 of what the start is? Still confused. :oops:

The animation can either
1) Flash big letters shrinking down to their final size (this is what the animations in your first post are doing).
2) Start with small letters and grow them to their final size.

For the first case, the "starting" size is larger than the "ending" size. For the second, the "starting" size is smaller than the "ending" size.

@molly,
Sorry, I should have been clearer. :oops:

@saulgoode,
I actually discovered the "enlarging" effect by accident after my incomplete explanation to molly.

@molly,
No, not stupid. Under-informed. At least we have the advantage of asking Saul questions - and getting a response in a reasonable amount of time. If not from him personally, than from another, more-experienced person. It's the advantage that permeates the open-source community. You rarely if ever get that type of support in the for-profit world.

Shoot, over New Year's my telephone was out (just the voice line, but not the DSL)...it took the phone company SIX DAYS to come and restore my service. Needless to say I was not in a good mood. It wasn't even during bad weather; we had a thaw here over New Year's such that I could go outside in a T-shirt.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

That is a really cool script though. :)
Is there a way to edit the script so it reverses every other letter?
big-small / small - big .. ect

That would be a cool effect :lol
