GNU Image Manipulation Program Has Stopped Working

I have a business that I use Gimp for several times daily. I have pending orders and all of the sudden it won't open. I haven't downloaded any fonts lately. I have windows 8 and there was an update and I thought maybe I needed to do that first. I have uninstalled Gimp and reinstalled it and it still won't open. I need immediate help PLEASE!!

Tami could you give more info such as 'anything'
32bit or 64bit
where you got your gimp from
where you installed your gimp
How you tried to start gimp and any messages you received?

Start Gimp from a command line verbose and post the results here.

After all was deleted I did a search on my computer for Gimp and it came up with folders still in my computer.
They are:
gimp-2.8.6 set up
gimprc
gimpressionist
Gimp work
gimp-2
gimp cover tutorial
gimprc
Not sure if that helps

I would save your Gimp work and gimp cover tutorial in a folder on desktop and call it something else besides gimp. like Tammy projects, anything but gimp. and delete and clean out all the rest.
Download and install a clean new 64-bit Gimp, I would suggest from Partha's Place.
Make sure there are no Gimp files left when you do a search before you do a clean install.

The new one I downloaded was from Partha. So should I uninstall Gimp AGAIN and then delete those files with the exception of what you said and rename on my desktop? And then reinstall it? I just don't understand why all of this happened to begin with. It was working just fine and then bam! I am losing business not to mention getting behind. Ugh!

Maybe you better wait until someone else comes on line to verify what you should do. It is early yet in some places so hopefully there will be help for you to get this straightened out.
I know it is very frustrating, been there.

If you installed any kind of software (and got automatic updates...) then this could have messed up Gimp and reinstalling can be a solution.

Otherwise a solution that often works is to rename your Gimp profile and restart Gimp. This will make it recreate a clean user profile. You can then copy the stuff you need from the old profile (brushes, patterns, scripts...), little by little and remove what you juts copied back if Gim breaks again.
