The last 2 days when I come to this site there is this expanding circle(fireworks) animation going on in different parts of the screen, I find it annoying after a while - It's very distracting!!!

I do not remember when this started. but I find it annoying. On the Gimp Chat forum there are , what appears to be starbursts or fireworks. See inset


If I do Ctl U I can display the html or style page . There is a javascript called Fireworks that seems to to be the cause. (at least if I read the code it seems to correspond to the exploding fireworks) I tried to edit it but I do not know how . Is it a virus? A virus scan does not show any problems.

The fireworks animation is part of GC's U.S Independence Day Celebration and the New Year celebration. We are sorry that some members find it annoying. Those members should consider disabling javascript or avoiding GIMP Chat for the 2 days we celebrate U.S. Independence Day and the New Year.

Right after posting this I decided to disable javascript and now it's gone, I just found it distracting when I am trying to read! but ok if it's only for a couple of days...

GnuTux If I had known it was for 4th July celebrations. I would not have worried about it but I did not know it was part of celebrations. I thought I had a virus

I think it is cool. and don't find it distracting at all.
If it was a flashing Avatar or sig flashing, then it would be distracting. I think this is barely noticeable and quite festive.

LOL guess I am easily distracted then - need to improve my erm my err, what was I going to say er, oh I've forgotten now.
