Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Stimulated by SallyAnne's challenge on creating a "painting look" of a photo (challenge to which many -me too- partecipated), I like to spend some time in doing that on some photos of various types.
Let's start with flowers.

"paint-look"
because during my tests - varying some steps or parameters - I came out with mainly two different "nuances", I called them "acrylic" and "aquarel"
in both cases they simulate "painting on paper"

acrylic

aquarel

nothing brilliant, maybe (I hope) contributors to SallyAnne's challenge will also contribute here....

@Dinasset & Issabella - quality outcomes, I especially like the darkening/saturatiing colours approach.

@Marcello - I recently put all our potted irises out of action because when our friend originally provided the rhizomes, she said they were all different colours. When they flowered we got 11 yellow and 1 purple.! I wmight have a play with yours if that's OK.

Marcello, your photos are so nice that any manipulation is at a risk of ruining them.
Nevertheless I did my tries:
1-

altered also in the colour, thus a new "variance" of the flower

2-

a more "delicate" manipulation

Marcello, your photos are beautiful, and I agree with you about Dinasset as a master in getting the best of a photo.

I only tried to improve the appearance of detail.

Well Marcello I spent some time with your photos, targetted the colour and tried to emphasise it ...

... not sure if I succeeded.

Irises are so much fun to GIMP around! I love that pale pink variation. It's...ethereal.

Today, I turned one of my iris photos into an antique illustration:

This is greatly reduced from the original.

Hmm...I think I should add a few stains and a darkened edge to the old "paper"
