Rod I like your sphere. I used David's Tileable rotation in G'MIC to get seamless diagonal lines. These are both a demonstration that indexing for the gif file was advantageous. It sharpened the lines a little. I don't think I've had that happen before.

Good morning

ok,on the barber pole animation

as soon as i try to apply video/frames modify,i get Gimp messages:plug in diffraction iterator not found.and then too many errors.
I tried to ignore the messages,but when i animate all i get is the striped layer turning into a cylinder then back to a flat striped image.

Any idea why?

well the message says that a needed file was not found
I could not imagine how the file could get lost, it seems more probable that your GAP version didn't match your Gimp version

About the file there are 2 possibility or is called something as Diffration_iter.exe or is included in GAP, i mean included in some of GAP binary.

Recreate the file is not easy

Anyway i have no idea of what tutorial you refer to., neither of the version of GAP you have installed ,that make harder to help

Are you sure to have chose the right filter to call from Frame Modify dialog?
Because the message says you wanted to use the diffraction filter, not the Map Object filter as required from the Tut

BTW

If you have problem with a GC tutorial you should post your message there
not open a new topic on help board

You probably need to re-install the diffraction pattern plug-in file, or check for conflicting duplicate DLL files.
I do not remember which DLL files come with GAP's install however.
Does the error occur when you click the Frames Modify menu link, or after the dialog for modify pops up and you click (apply varying)?

If the plug-in - diffraction pattern is in the list in that selection dialog (apply animation on frames) that means the plugin is installed.But it could still be faulty.
Image

When you run Frames Modify it will auto rename the image as an xcf file, if it isn't already named.
After it is named you need to save it before the modify will work.Or it will return an error "file not found"

I ran the diffraction with frames modify on my XP with Gimp-2.6.11 on 1 frame and it worked fine.

There are not dll in Gap, and all the iter files required to animate the plugin included in gimp are...hu...included in GAP binary meaning that there is no way to lose them

The problem may be the Gimp and Gap version,
GAP-2.4 for Gimp-2.4
GAP-2.6 for Gimp-2,6

and for GIMP-2.7 JamesH posted a recent build of GAP-2.7,
but exactly with Gimp-2.7 were problems to animate the map to object filter.

Reads all the answers to my question eyes wide.
Photocomix,I am sorry if i started a new topic.and what I d/ld was gap 2.6 because i have gimp 2.6
The errors I get are before is as soon as I open video/frame modify
I guess I need to check and see if it is saved as an xcf file or not.
Unfortunatly I am working 6 days a week 13 hours this month,so I will try on Sunday and i will let You all Know if that helped
Thank You All for your concern and help ,as always,like they say in Georgia,Y'all

That sounds like it tried to enter the diffraction plug-in in the list and couldn't find it.
I would re-download that plug-in.I am not sure if that is a default Gimp plug-in?
If it is a plug-in Gimp comes with PC has an online folder of all the 2.6 default plug-ins at Deviant Art site.
You can get them here. - http://photocomix-resources.deviantart. ... -100575270

There is also this one at the registry
http://registry.gimp.org/node/173
<-- out dated - Gimp comes with one installed at Filters/Render/Patterns/Diffraction Patterns

Thank you PC for having that default set handy! :bigthup

I had that happen at one time doing that and I don't know how I fixed it. I think I might have deleted it all and started from scratch. I don't know. ccbarr isn't on line very much but I know he could help you fix it but I would just start it over and maybe you might have missed one little step.

Either delete it and start over or try posting your xcf in the attachment thing below. Maybe someone can figure out what caused the squares

You did it but you forgot to combine your background with the other layers
(filters/Animation/Combine background) and then delete your original background layer, and then when saving as gif set all layers 100ms then set disposal to replace for all layers

Just save the image below↓and open the gif in gimp and you will see what I mean

I am trying to do the tute again but I am having probs with some of it. We think it is mathmap that is causing the trouble so I will try it again one more time.
This is what happened in step #12......
The cylinder formed, but the layers stayed square
[ Image ]
It says in step 12b to payback but that is impossible to play 30 layers of squares. lol

I’ve got the same problem. The problem is step 11. The inbetween layers appear but they haven't been affected by the plugin called. They’re all still square.

I thought it might be because GAP is 2.6 and Gimp is 2.8 but it appears there isn't a 2.8 version.

Try disabling Single Window Mode (at the bottom of the Windows menu). GAP sometimes switches the display on you and you may be looking at a different image than the one that was modified.

I have tried disabling Single Window mode. I even tried importing the layers first. Nothing works. You get first and last but everything inbetween is ignored. I even tried using " Filter all images" the way another tutorial said to but when I did that only the first instance showed, after clicking "continue" nothing happened. :gaah

I think there is a genuine problem here.

The Map-Object plugin has been updated in Gimp 2.8 with two new toggles in the GUI ("Create new layer" and "Update preview live") which changes the format and size of the last-vals data stored by the plugin, but the GAP iterator for Map-Object has not been updated since Gimp 2.6.6.
In gimp-gap-master/gap/iter_ALT/mod/plug_in_map_object_iter_ALT.inc

    typedef struct
    {
      GimpVector3    viewpoint;
      GimpVector3    firstaxis;
      GimpVector3    secondaxis;
      GimpVector3    normal;
      GimpVector3    position;
      GimpVector3    scale;
      t_LightSettings lightsource;

      t_MaterialSettings material;
      t_MaterialSettings refmaterial;

      t_MapType maptype;

      gint antialiasing;
      gint create_new_image;
      gint transparent_background;
      gint tiled;
      gint showgrid;
      gint showcaps;

      gdouble zoom;

      gdouble alpha,beta,gamma;
      gdouble maxdepth;
      gdouble pixeltreshold;
      gdouble radius;
      gdouble cylinder_radius;
      gdouble cylinder_length;

      gint32 boxmap_id[6];
      gint32 cylindermap_id[2];

    } t_plug_in_map_object_Vals;

-------------------------------------------
But in gimp-2.8.14/plug-ins/map-object/map-object-main.h

typedef struct
{
  GimpVector3   viewpoint,firstaxis,secondaxis,normal,position,scale;
  LightSettings lightsource;

  MaterialSettings material;
  MaterialSettings refmaterial;

  MapType maptype;

  gint antialiasing;
  gint create_new_image;
  gint create_new_layer;         <== THIS IS NEW
  gint transparent_background;
  gint tiled;
  gint livepreview;            <== AND THIS IS NEW
  gint showgrid;
  gint showcaps;

  gdouble zoom;
  gdouble alpha,beta,gamma;
  gdouble maxdepth;
  gdouble pixeltreshold;
  gdouble radius;
  gdouble cylinder_radius;
  gdouble cylinder_length;

  gint32 boxmap_id[6];
  gint32 cylindermap_id[2];

} MapObjectValues;

When you run GAP Frames Modify>Apply filter on layer(s) and select plug-in-map-object, the plug-in runs okay on the first layer but the GAP iterator (which should invoke the plugin for each "tween" frame) then craps out with the following error on the Console:
ERROR: p_plug_in_map_object_iter stored Data missmatch in size 528 != 520
(The mismatch in size is simply the two new toggles introduced, each a 32-bit int.)

The GAP file plug_in_map_object_iter_ALT.inc needs to be brought up to date and GAP re-built for all platforms.

Does anyone know whether Wolfgang Hofer is still maintaining this code (even occasionally)? He hasn't made any updates on git.gnome.org since last July.

Thanks jontait2, I thought something like that might be the case when " filters/apply to all layers" cut out after the continue button was pushed as the blur filter in another tutorial using same method worked.

oh this one looks fun, i must give it a try gotta go install GAP now
my video frames modify step didn't modify my frames for some reason (I tried it twice and it only modified the first one) so I had to manually create 30 layers and map object each one of them.
