I'm just curious as to which program is better... MandelBulb3D or Mandelbulber? I ask because one program gets updated quiet frequently while the other one doesn't.

I'm not sure if any are "better" but I think your platform matters. Mandelbulber, I believe, will work as is on Linux whereas Linux users would need wine to run mandelbulb3d. (my memory isn't great so please don't kick me if I'm wrong there) I can vouch for Mandelbulb 3d as a great tool and Jesse who creates it and Darkbeam who creates many of the formulas are both on FractalForums if you need them. I don't know anything about the creator of Mandelbulber but I've seen some awesome work created with it. Both programs are worth trying.

I use Mandlebulb 3D on Windows 7. I haven't tried Mandlebulber. I might try it out.

Thanks to you both for reminding me about Mandelbulber. In recent times I play around with jwildfire so Mandelbulber sits unused.

Looking at updates, from almost a year ago there is a Mandelbulber2, last update only a few days ago.

Compiled it last night (LM 17.2), with all the qt5 stuff, a much bigger application than previous, and a much changed interface. This is one of their example files.

Do not let the complexity put you off, dive in and experiment.

The basic principle is the same - the differences will be mainly the user interface and the way it is structured and there may be some different functions. I've never used Mandelbulber so I can't be more specific.
