After kicking the idea around for probably 2 years I finally broke down and bought fractalius. I wouldn't have spent the money but my wife thought I could have fun with it and convinced me to do it. I've not seen another plugin that does anything like it and Redfield's is the only place I've ever paid for a plugin so i know his are good. I have 5 of his now. I think it will be a lot of fun.

Yeah; been debating on getting this one of a few years now too and just can't seem to get over my cheapness based on the price for a single effect plugin, but the results from it are awesome. I've had some success at replicating the look using G'MICs B/W Sketch preset, but it's just not the same of course. Maybe one day I'll break down too. lol

I agree, but his $40 isn't as bad as alien skin or eye candy, they're prices are scandelous. I don't make any money from it and that's what kept me from getting it but as my wife pointed out, it's fun and that makes it ok.

Add to that list of scandelous prices Flaming Pear's super blade pro, compared to that redfield is a bargain.

I love fractalius! It has been a source of great entertainment as well as interesting artwork.

Yes fractalius is really cool ,but is hard to emulate even if some Gmic filter may help



I could no care less for superblade but please don't put down Flaming Pear, Flexify is excellent and hard to emulate (well a combination of mathmap and Panini Projector may do almost the same but not so straight to the result..)

I like Flaming Pears Flood also.

Never heard of it, nor used it, but it looks really nice. I wonder can GMIC do this kind of thing???

I played with it once and decided it wasn't anything to get excited over and grossly overpriced. Some of the Eye Candy filters are $300-$400 and they're much better than Flaming pear but I'd have to be a professional and making criminal amounts of money before I'd even consider paying that much, although it's good.

I went to the website, and saw some of their apps like Expressionist, iEmboss, and Sketch Master. The thing is you can do all thoughs effects in Gimp without 3rd part scripts, or plugins.

$40 for a plugin though, I think I'll pass. I can see someone making something like that for Gimp though, and the people that paid for it will be pretty pissed seeing as how they waisted their money imo.

No, not really, I have a lot of those, Plasteroid, texturizer, Sketchmaster, and a couple others. You can approximate them in gimp but not easily or precisely. To duplicate the effect in gimp would take a lot of layers and a lot of time, these filters can do it in a few seconds with less than 4 clicks sometimes. They cost a sh*tload, yeah $40 is a good deal compared to thoughs other prices, but I'll stick with just Gimp, cause it's free, and also Flame Painter.

Gimp is great but free only takes you so far. A little money spent wisely sometimes can give you a LOT more capability, and free plugins can sometimes be worth gold. $40 is my absolute max I'd ever spend.

I agree with you G; I was lucky to have acquired DAP for $35 when it was initially offered. Unfortunately, I did pay $99 for PostworkShop Pro (no regrets with that either). I mention this often, but artist I'm not; filter guy I am, and filters make the world go round, but free ones even better (Impressionist (thanks to RobA for helping me get it to work in GIMP) and Paint Engine (using a surrogate to run this one) are a few examples. Still, though the filters I have are pricey, they were acquired over a period of years so amortization considerations as well as the joy they have brought me (and accolades from those that I shared my results with {other forums}) make me happy to have them.

My biggest buy was Filter Forge 1.021 Standard by far and well worth the money.
I have not seen a real need for 2.0, although they keep sending me coupons.

This filter is called Fractly My Dear - aptly named.

I'm not an artist either, a turnip has more artistic talent than i do. I'm quite good at CAD and I'm good with Gimp and inkscape and software. I'm just not creative that way, my artistic medium is words.
