Alphabet in Inkscape

Thank you, Artloader. The project idea of creating a letter constructed from other letters was mine, but the concept of taking the resulting letter forms and turning them into a font was Wallace's. Now we just need to get 'er done! As they say...

Here are E and F.

I should have mentioned this form the start,
but I forgot.

The program I'm using to create the font.
Uses what's called a Scripted Template Sheet.
On which I need to place each letter into a given space,
so that the program will recognize each letter in turn.

Here's a screenshot of what a basic template for a single letter looks like.

As you can see in the screenshot above.
I'm zoomed into the image at 100%.
The Width of the "F" in this image above is close to 62 pixels and a Height is 86 pixels.

If you can...
will you be able to begin to create the letter,
somewhere within this pixel boundary of 62 width by 86 height?

They do not all need to be exactly this pixel dimension.
A few pixels either way is fine.
As long as the letter are of a size,
that they will fit into the space required.
As it stands now we have letters A-F and these images are much to large to be used.
However,
I can fix the letters that you have already made, using path.
To have them be the correct dimensions for the template.
You will not need to redo the letters you have already created.

Can you do this?

Hmm. I don't see why I couldn't. I will try building them full size, then reducing before exporting the png file. That should work.

It looks pretty good small. I was worry about that. :hi5

I tried it out on the F, just to make sure. I think it came out okay.

I tried my ideas, and those suck big time. Wallace, how the heck do you fix them using path? I have tried, with absolutely no luck. :puzzled

*EDIT: I tried creating a G small to start. It looks good in Inkscape, but again, it craps out in GIMP when enlarged. They either A) Need fixed afterward by you method. or B) Saved as SVG if you can use them that way.

I turned the six letters you previously made into a font.
I used the maximum size that I could for the Template Sheet of 6500x6500,
as well as the font character size of 189x144 and this is the results.

The program is designed to makes fonts form handwriting.
You're suppose to use a felt pen to write all the letters onto the Template Sheet.
Then you scan the completed Template Sheet and load it into the program.

My guess is,
that the font is to complicated and isn't being rendered correctly.

I think this "Font" project is a bust,
at least it is on my end.
We did try,
but the font is much to intricate for the software I'm using.
It won't render properly,
even at the highest limits of the software.

It doesn't make sense to continue,
if the font is going to look like a total disaster.

I hate to say it,

, but I believe you are right. I truly appreciate all of your time and effort, Wallace, but here we draw a line under the Alphabet in Inkscape - to - Font project.

I am going to continue to complete the alphabet as an art project, though. I do like it!

There was a Gimp Plugin called PhotoFont,
which could take your letters and use them as a "photo font" within Gimp.

I've begun to put together the individual letters,
which are needed by PhotoFont.
Try to keep the letters within the size seen in the attached screenshot below,
as best as you can.
Some letters like the "W" will more than likely be larger which is fine.

Once we have all the 26 individual letters together,
as separate PNG images.
I can go ahead and create the file needed by PhotoFont.
To be able to use your letters as a font within Gimp.

You would need to install the Gimp PSPI plugin as well as the ps2win.exe.

You'll have this font yet.
One way or another.

Morning. I redid X, Y and Z. Originally, I allowed them to stay at their natural width, thinking that would be good, but it just didn't work with the overall project, as you can see above. I felt it created better unity to force them to width. Result below:

I love it, and I got 2 parts that I need, but the link you gave and all the links I can find for the PhotoFont plugin come up blank. :gaah
