I think the halo on yours must have been caused by a filter you have used, so perhaps you should not blame yourself!

I have just checked that the halo is not caused by the original - I have taken contrast and brightness to extreme levels to make sure.
I also would like to know the explanation, so that I don't have the same problem in the future!

Many things can cause a halo, the first possible culprit being unsharp mask. But I don't know what you wanted to do, and I don't know what you used, so it's hard to make suggestions.

@david: from that point of view anything awful you do with Gimp isn't your fault, it's Gimp

Unsharp Mask! I have used it a lot and now that I think about it, some of my photos had what I thought were halos after. Thanks, Ofnuts. I have a few photos to fix.

I hope these two photos are going to be beautifully enhanced. Pat and me aren't going to get any halo on them

Issabella, I think the photos are as good as they are. So I can't enhance them. I like the wet mud under the tunnel in your first picture. If I make contrast or details stronger, the mud loses its natural appearance. In your original image the haze is also nice. I also like the "color" of the snow in your original picture. A lot of snow images get a blue color cast. In your pictures there is no blue color cast. I also like the contrast and the color balance of the second photo.

iarga, you are right, I like them as they are really , but as you all experts in photography, always do wonderful ones... I like seeing them then, tranformed under your talent.

Issabella, I am not an expert at all, it was only my personal opinion. But I learned something about color and color cast last year. I can see your photocamera has a nice color balance, and you know how to use it.

Your next images are interesting. In your second image here, there is a blurred spot bottom center, next to the tree. Maybe your lens was a little bit wet? That can be enhanced perhaps. Also a crop or inpaint, because of the right top corner. A little bit more view on the way behind the trees would also be nice, I think.

I will give the photos a try, later this day, for I am busy now.
