My favorite of the two is the grasshopper with the great color variations!
I have a locust.

Thank you Animicule. I liked the grasshopper better too. With your locust, how did you get the plain while background? Just cut out the locust and place on new White BG?

Pat --- changing back ground layer color:
Basics, choose only the layers you want visible not including the pad color.
Make new from visible. Set mode to screen mode, turn the back ground layer on again.
Do alpha to selection on the New from Visible Layer, Invert the selection,
and Cut the Pad Color Layer. This gives the screen mode layers a backing so they will display
and now you can replace the empty places with a color or pattern, gradient, photo or whatever you think
looks nice.

Sometimes after that I will use a smokey border layer, and turn the opacity down to give a slightly dark outline.
