Just some thoughts about the video format, in particular the aspect ratio. Could be the old 4:3 or a more modern 15:9

Say 15:9 then a pixel size could be 1920x1080 as racerx lead-in or a more modest 1280x720. Whatever is used will not match the card designs which range from about 800x900 to 2400x2400 Scaling and quality is not usually a problem, you can get away with murder in a video providing it moves.

What will be needed is some nice Christmas'y backgrounds to fill in borders ;)

Sure, I'll put the slideshow together out of the images posted in this thread. You can design the tittle text that I will overlay over the video. Save it as a 32-bit png for transparency. Make the tittle template @ 1920x1080.

I'l also need recommendation for free sound track.

As for s/w suggestion. I run Linux, but I use a free and powerful compositing s/w that is Windows only. I run it under wine. It's not easy to use however. It's called Aviutl: https://www.videohelp.com/software/AviUtl

I was going to use Adobe Spark's free online slideshow maker, but unfortunately they don't recognize your mp4 files as a valid format.
So I'll need to make the video some other way.
Can you make an animated gif image, as an intro for the video, instead of an mp4 file?

A basic video editor is Avidemux, free, versions for all platforms.

looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/Wt3ey86.jpg

But it does not (easily) make slide shows. Several of those around but a nice simple slide show application is

http://www.photofilmstrip.org/en/

Get your slideshow video, append it to the lead-in. Of course never that simple ;)

Thanks for both of your suggestions,
it's much appreciated.
I've actually started to arrange the video,
using a basic video editing program called Shotcut.

@ racer-x,
I'm still interested in an intro and outro clip,
if you are so inclined to create them for the video.
I was able to get a few free,
attribution not required Christmas music clips,
using YouTube's Audio Library.

This project depends on the kind of response this thread generates and the amount of images which are posted.
If there are only a few images contributed to the project,
it may not be worthwhile to make a video.
However,
I'm still going to keep this video project open and see what happens.

Excellent suggestion!

This was also a concern I had,
but I've been adding backgrounds and scaling what images that have already been posted.
Going with 1920x1080 and 15:9.

Here are a couple of clips I made in AVC format. That should work in your program. One is the snowy bridge. The other one is a fire place that I made into a loop.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I'll place both clips within the video's intro and outro.

Thanks again racer-x,
for your time and effort,
it's much appreciated.

If I can get my 'must do' lists done, then I'll see if I can come up with a contribution. Working retail this time of year is pretty brutal on one's time, though!

Though it's only a part time job, I too work for a major retailer (17 hours last week which is above and beyond my 40 hour full time job). I do feel your pain, 2-ton. :)

Thanks again Issabella,
for your generous contribution to the Gimp Chat 2017 Christmas Video Project.

I've done very little to almost no video editing and I'm basically flying by the seat of my pants,
but I'll have a video for us in time for the holiday.
As long as our GC members keep the contributions flowing.
