My first - not quite satisfactory - attempt, and the original. I think the image I took has too much details; images with more plain areas would be better.

Very good start, Moniaqua. Thanks for joining the group.
I don't think the original has too many details, what I see is that it has few hues, it's all "greenish"; normally a watercolour painting likes to play with more colours. You may "adjust" a bit the original before running the tutorial.

I see what you mean, although I am not quite sure if this really is the reason. I painted that picture of the dolphins actually with a real paintbrush and watercolors and mainly used blue, except of the sun. I think one could call this blueish (if the sun wasn't there, it would still be a visible picture of dolphins but really all in blue; the bee has brown, yellow, white, green and grey - maybe I should get the colors more saturated though); but the colors are more clear, maybe that is the reason?

Monika, very nice "real" aquerell, congrats.
About your bee: it's an excellent "simulated" aquerell, IMO. It's just my taste which often looks forward for a more "coloured" aquerell (maybe you can try with flowers, next time), but don't care of my taste, it's your taste (being a real artist) which cares.

Just to make sure, I didn't feel in any way unhappy or so, I only tried to think loud so that others maybe can learn something out of my not so optimal bee (I think there could be a better outcome if the original image fits better to the workflow

Moniaqua, I see a very nice result. Try it on different images to see which ones match better to your taste. Your real "Dolphins" aquarel is superb!
