Hallo dinasset, I am trying to locate this filter, plain knitted look, but I can't find the actual file to download. Is it still available?
EDIT: I found it now under plugins and filters. Post 56. Will try it.

OK, I just looked into my archives and found it.
Let me know if the one you have found works and if you like it.

I have downloaded it, and installed it in the same plugins folder as your crocheted filter but it don't appear at all.
Also your artistic fake knitting filter is not showing up. I assume it would go automatically under the "Diego" menu but both are not there. Only the crochet patch filter is showing, even after restart. I am running Gimp 2.10.28.

What I jave in my archived filters is:
Attachment:
DIEGO_CROCHETKNITPATCH_PlainKnittedLook210.7z [4.13 KiB]
Downloaded 134 times

Remove what you have and replace with this one, it should appear under
Diego/CrochetKnitPatch

I have removed the plain knitted look filter from the plugins and installed the new one, but only the crochet look filter shows up under CrochetKnitPatch.
Should I removed the crochet look filter that works also from plugins?

No, but I remember you had initially troubles also with that one, which later on you solved.
Maybe you have conflicts with old copies, could you search thru your (user)plug-ins folder?

Do you have the service program "Everything", with which you can search thru your PC?
If not it could be the case you install and use it.

The issue was I was on another version of Gimp which didn't have this 'py' installed correctly. After downloaded the latest version automatically your crochet filter works. I think I must ask my friend this evening to look into it again as he knows these things better.

In the meantime it's useful to provide a "searching" program like "everything", it's free.

Thank you but so far I didn't need this search everything. But this is very handy for the future.

It's now working, both of these 2 new filters. I have Gimp 2, older version, installed and copied the filters also into the plugins folder there. However, the fake knit filter looks for the shine pattern which I also have in a folder. Should I put it also in the plugins folder where the filters is?

Here is a quick try of your great knit filter. I am trying to have a bit bigger size stitches as seen on some of the images posted here by others, but can't get it show bigger. Is there a way of making the stitches a bit bigger as on my images?

Laura,
if you like to have always a more evident texture, replace the pattern you have with this one.

If you instead like to have different looks for different images, I can prepare a specific version of the filter, let me know.

Hallo dinasset,

Thank you for this file to get the stitches more bigger. It works perfectly as you can see on the image here.
Years ago, I tried to follow a scripting tutorial in PSP but I couldn't understand anything as it's way too complex for me.
I had used a crochet script by Joske Backer in PSP which was very realistic but try making such on my own not working.
I am very clueless when anything computing related is involved.

Thank you for your time,

Laura

Well, I was just thinking to you while going here to open my PC.
Evidently we had a "virtual" appointment..
Glad you are satisfied with the current results you can get.
Thanks for your appreciation.

I'm very late to this thread, and I've only just begun my GIMP journey. I'm looking to use something precisely like this, but I am having trouble with the installation process of the plugin.

I am using a 2015 Macbook Pro running Monterrey 12.6.4 and GIMP 2.10.38

I have gone to the preferences tab (for me it's located under the 'GIMP' heading -- scrolled to the bottom and located the 'Folders' option -- scrolled and clicked on 'Plug-Ins' -- and it only lets me actually access one of the suggested file paths there. For me, it is Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

Once I expand that folder it shows me folders like 'align-layers', 'animation-optimize', etc. It seems like this would be the place to put the file for your filter preset. So i extracted the file and pasted the .py into here. I tried to do it just the file in the 'plug-ins' folder and also tried making a separate folder within 'plug-ins' called Diego, and then restarted GIMP, but to no avail.

I've been at it for about 2.5 hours, and I'm not the best with this stuff. Any help would be appreciated. I've looked at YT videos and browsed other threads on this site, but can't seem to find a solution.

Thank you!

Your userfolder should be here

/Users/[username]/Library/GIMP/2.10
There should be a plug-ins folder in there. You place your plug-in there and make it executable.
Restart GIMP afterwards.
