Hi, I would like some help with installing PSPI on Linux. I use MX Linux which I think is based on debian and my GIMP version is 2.10.38 flatpak. I copied the plugin in /home/user/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins and it actually shows up on the splash screen for a blimp but it gives me no error message and doesn't appear in the menu.
I would really like to use some old .8bf plugin files I have, what can I do about it? Do you have any suggestion?

I don't want to be pessimist but because your GIMP is a flatpak PSPI might need to be built for flatpak.

A question, though, where did you get your PSPI for Linux? I found one overthere > https://github.com/draekko/gimp-pspi but it is a 32-bit application and you will need wine (via flatpak?)

Sadly we can't ping someone, but I'm sure @rich2005 has something for Linux if he read this thread, or gives more help than I could.

Can you list us some filters (and what they do) you need to use with PSPI, maybe G'MIC has them or similar (download for Debian as MX Linux is Debian based), thus it could remove the burden to install PSPI

I got PSPI from a forum with GIMP tutorials, it's a pspi script shell file and pspi.exe.so file. I think it's an old version for ubuntu, though.

The filters I'd like to replicate are Xero - Porcelain, Lokas Artistic Effects, and others that I don't actually know who the maker is, I'm sorry. Their names are ProcessFX2, BBPro, Beautifier and Technicolor.

Do you have the G'MIC plugin? if not it's the GIMP plugin must have (620+ filters), you can download it directly from their website (my previous post is the G'MIC official website).
I tell this because "Beautifier and Technicolor" are in G'MIC or alike, and even simulating older cameras and fims with plenty options.

Cannot Linux run Paint.Net with 8BF capabilities. Or isn't there a Linux version of PDN? I believe there is Linux freeware out there that has this capability. There must be.
Or you could always install a virtual machine and run Windows, and Gimp through it. This is the first i have heard of a PSPI so file. I actually tried to compile PSPI for 64 bit but you need a bunch of Adobe dependencies to do it.
I came close but gave up.

There's Photofiltre Studio that runs almost perfectly through Wine and supports at least the .8bf filters I use. But my laptop isn't really beefy so I guess it'll get a lot slower if I install Wine and all its dependencies. I can try though. My hope was that GIMP on Linux supported .8bf filters without doing what @rod did, I mean compile PSPI from scratch (I scoured the internet trying to find solutions and found that link too but I'm an absolute newbie at compiling stuff and coding, I choose MX to start my adventure because it looks like it works perfectly without much fuss) or resorting to install Windows software to use them.
Thank you @PixLab I'll experiment with G'MIC filters (I already had it installed, it's a must have for every software I use) and see if there's something similar! I also already installed GEGL text styles but I still cannot use them well. More things for me to try out
