ZebraTrace is a simple tool to trace bitmap images as svg.
Requires ZebraTrace program which must be installed.

My installation steps:
1. Downolad from https://maxim-s-barabash.github.io/ZebraTrace/ ... ZebraTRACE-0.6.0-win32.msi

Image

2. Run msi installer
3. Select the default installation path c:\Program Files (x86)\ZebraTRACE\

Image

4. Download and unzip plugin-ZebraTrace.zip (in ... 'HomeDirectory'\plug-ins\plugin-ZebraTrace.py)
5. Uruchom Gimp 2.

In menu: Filters ➤ Render ➤ ZebraTrace...

Select options in the plugin and run it

A few words about the principles of the plugin-ZebraTrace.

The idea for plugin-ZebraTraca.py is based on the autotrace.py by lloyd Konneker (bootch) and ShellOut.py elements by Rob Antonishen (RobA).

Running the plugin saves the active layer (in the Gimp tmp directory) as name.png and an empty file name.svg and opens the file name.png in ZebraTrace (exe).

After editing in ZebraTrace, we overwrite the file name.svg, which opens as paths in Gimp. The option "Fill the bottom with white?" allows you to choose whether you want to have a copy of the active layer as a background or fill it with white.
Closing ZebraTrace returns you to Gimp and exits the plugin (with the new image as a layer and path).
The created paths can be further edited at your discretion.

Important:
If you do not change the 'Name temp-file' in the next use, the png and svg files will be overwritten.
The svg file can be moved to another location.

The principle of saving two files allows you to run an external program with the required extension (here png) and return to Gimp with a file with a different extension (here svg) - after overwriting.

On this principle you can easily create other plugins, e.g. for Inkscape (bmp ➤ svg).

This looks really interesting. Is it Windows only? And does it work with GIMP 3?

Probably not. It says for GIMP2 in the title.
GIMP2 and GIMP3 plug-ins are not compatible

I just took a look at the code. Definitely not GIMP 3 compatible. I'm going to update it to v3 compatible.

OK; had to revisit this cool plugin since it's been a few years (not showing; just suffice to say that it's still fantastic and much better than the Alpha Plugins (PS filters) Engraver that is for sure, imo. :)
