I have a Mac. I had GMIC Version 1.4.8.3. I deleted it. I downloaded gmic_gimp_macosx_Leopard.zip for Version 1.5.0.1 and placed the file in Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Gimp/plug-ins. Now I can't get GMIC to appear in the filters list. Can anyone help?

There are several different ways to do this but if you look in the tutorial section and find them you might be able to manage...I actually have GIMP with GMIC running on LION but it does depend on you pointing GIMP to the plug in by following the turorials..if this doesnt help get back to me with it and I'll walk you through it

no its not a free upgrade but its nor expensive either...however, it will look very similar but things are not as easy to find...home folder for one...external HD's for another ...none of these show up in the same way they do on earlier versions...but I am getting used to it...I am still using Snow Leopard on my desktop and Lion on my laptop...If you are doing a clean install of lion then you need to do it from a bootable data stick and instead of holding down the c key as you would with the disc, you hold down the option key and make choices from there, as well as that you can partition the HD from a clean install so in fact you can do that and then install something else say like.....LINUX on the partition. or using bootcamp, then you could install windows on the partition so in fact have 2 or maybe even 3 different operating systems...bearing in mind that once you introduce something other than the mac OS, you will be apt to also introduce indesireables like virus etc...Price for the upgradeable version is around $32 AUD...then you would need to tweak it to get it to the way you want it. And I have software for that which isnt huge. I found a fair bit of fiddling to get things into where I want them so I can help you with those ideas.

I already had the correct path in the preferences window. But I browsed for the same path again and put it in the folder window and rebooted Gimp but nothing has changed. GMIC is not visible in the filters menu.

My operating system is Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I followed these instructions from akkadia2 on a Flickr forum and it worked, though I'm not sure if it is just the different version of gmic that made a difference or the copying of the path or both:

To Add GMIC to Mac OS 10.6.8 A Little different to 10.6.7 but same principal.

Download gmic_gimp 1.5.0.0 beta for SnowLeopard
Place the gmic_gimp file in the plug-ins folder by navigating to
/Users/yourhomefolder/Library/Application Support/Gimp/plug-ins and dropping it in the folder.
Right click on the gmic_gimp file and then get info.
This will open up another box which will display a url like address for the plug-ins folder…imperative that you use this and do not try to type it in by hand.
So hilight this and then right click to copy.
Assuming you already have GIMP open, navigate to Edit/preferences/Folders/Plug-Ins.
Click on the white paper icon and then right click paste the previously copied address in the address bar…then click ok….
It is important that you use the mouse to R click copy and paste as it may not work if you use the keyboard commands…If you are using a mighty mouse and do not know how to do this then message me and I will help you to configure your mouse to be able to right click.

Thanks for your help.

ok those instructions are mine..I am akkadia2...if its working then great...let me know..

as for what it is that makes the difference I think its the copy/paste method..and as well you must have the correct version for your OS...but having said that...I am using the OS X 10.6.8 version of GIMP and GMIC on the new OS X 10.7 *shrugs*...who knows but it works...personally I have issues with the python plug ins...and havent been able to figure those out yet.
