I would like to take the output from Graechan's script and print it out in such a way that it would cover a real Christmas ball. That way my grand kids would have something on the tree for each of their Christmases.

I have seen outputs for other items, such as globes, but I have no idea how to accomplish this. A script would be preferable as I tend to be scatter-brained, but a tut would also work. If these can't be done, any other information or suggestions would be appreciated!

Oh, my. I don't know how you'd cut paper to make it cover an actual ball. There are a lot of paper balls you can make.

If you do a Google search for fold paper into a ball you may find something that works. You could print a square with what you want on it and cut out the colored area and fold it.

What I would like to do is to take the output from Graechan's script and glue it to a blank Christmas ball to make a real ball for the tree. I have seen odd looking cutouts cutouts that would fit around the sphere, but I have no idea how convert what I have into one of these cutouts. So I figured that I would go to the most knowledgeable people I know to ask!

I understand what you are asking but I don't know how it is possible. Perhaps someone else can help you. It would involve sphere sections and and spherical trigonometry or calculus. Then mapping it. Oh, my. The ornament is only one sided, to get it to be 3D would be very difficult.

I doubt you can use the output from Graechan's script - you would at least need two to go around an ornament. You need to use a rectangle with all of the elements on it. Getting it the size of an ornament would be difficult, too.

Yes, that is the type of thing that I am looking for.

I cleaned out the bg from the 4-sectioned one and made a square for the ornament that was half the width of it. Duplicated the layer, re-sized the canvas so it was twice as wide for the ornament and moved one of the copies to the right so I had a wide rectangle with both ornament squares in it.

I overlayed the sphere, did alpha to selection, inverted the selection and deleted.

I made it very plain but you can see what needs to be done. I also have attached an xcf file with the layers intact.

Or you could use saulgoode's platonic/dodecahedron script and make it 12 sided.

I made a lot of them and got them all over the place. I really got good at taping them together, I had a real system going. They were lots of fun.
When you print them, use a nice heavy quality of paper and they fold easier.
