GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Linux
OS Version: Gentoo
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I am trying to paint with a gradient.
In both Gimp-2.6.11 and 4.7.4 pressure on my Wacom tablet doesn't work.
It works ok when I use foreground color.
I get the impression that it's simply impossible to use gradient with pressure.
Or am I doing something wrong?
Gerard.

I can not figure out how to use the paint with gradient in 2.7
I can use fg to bg gradient setting, and paint gradients but picking another gradient doesn't work.
Shouldn't there be a paint with gradient setting to select?
It doesn't even allow paint with gradient with the mouse either.

Thanks Rod.
Well seems I had to set the pressure curve.
It is now at 94 6 94 6.

And it's working in 2.6.11.
I will have to reboot into the extra partition where 2.7 is located.
I'll be back.
Gerard.

This is from my 2nd partition.
You have to set brush dynamics to Random Color.
Tried to edit and set it to "Opacity" but that didn't work.

I set the tablet pressure curve the same as in 2.6.11.
Let's hope this wil get ironed out in 2.8.
I need 2.7 for it's ability to rotate brushes.
Thanks again Rod.
Gerard.

Thank you Gerard that worked for the mouse also.Spacing for the gradient seems way off though using random colors.
Who knows maybe a paint with gradient box will be added to tool options for the brush settings in Gimp-2.8. We can only hope. :)

In my honest opinion the brush tool options dialog for Gimp-2.8 also needs to include spacing.
That would be a nice option to have right there in the tool options window.I know it's found in the brush selection dialog window but it would be nice to have it in both places.

Rod look at my screenshot of 2.7 just above the clock you'll see spacing is at only 20.
You can easily set it so it'll make dots.
Gerard.

Rod just out of interest can you change the gradient colour when presurizing in using any brush in using tablet pen the more you put presure on the darker or lighter it becomes. You can do that on mypaint I was wondering if you can do it in gimp.

Yes you can set the pressure for brushes while using your tablet pen in Gimp Lorri.

@Gerard i want to set the spacing so the gradient actually looks like a line with a gradient fill. Not dots.
Setting the spacing to just 1 still didn't result in a very good looking gradient line though.Sadly.
Even setting the option to smooth didn't get it.I normally do not have my brush selection dialog open all the time, just brush editor. So spacing setup in the tool options would be better for me. :)

I see Rod.
Well my screenshot was made with Gimp-2.7.4 from Gentoo repository.
It froze on me a couple of times so I went back to git installs.
Just finished a new git install:
I now have a whole slew of choices when you press the Dynamics button.
There's one called Confetti which uses the gradient too like Random Color.
Also tried Dynamics Random and some others, not sure they're all so useful.
Dynamics Random might drive you nuts.
Gerard.

Gerard does the new Gimp-2.7 from GIT now include a box to tick for using gradients with the brush?
If not that is also missing from Gimp-2.7 versions. It is probably there somewhere i just can not find it. :lol

Maybe something to bring up to the developers (a bug perhaps)?

Good deal Lorri! :)

Hi Rod,
Yes it's missing too.
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/
As you can see in above link there's activity on the Tool section.
I can't believe they will leave that out in the final version.
I wonder when it'll finally appear, don't think they'll be ready come our birthdays though.
I will switch to the experimental partition now and do a new install.
I'll keep you posted.
Gerard.

You're welcome.
If it's not in the git version where else could it be?
Gerard.

I am just kind of wondering if he will release a newer version with the newest dynamics added. :)
I sent him an email.I also asked him about the gradient by brush box.maybe he knows more about it.

Anyone know where Help/Manual for Gimp-2.7.x can be found?
I did a lot of googling but nada.
I own a copy of the Gimp Bible,it was written far too soon, lots of things are different from what the book says.
Gerard.

You have to use the Gimp-2.6.11 manual. It is one of the things that are being worked on (documentation).
However i did setup a tutorial on installing help into Gimp-2.7.5.
I do not think it will work for you though as its a compiled Windows binary file.
Unless you can find the src file for the help.exe file?
Then you could compile on Linux. I have no idea where to find it though.MareroQ found the Windows binary maybe you can PM him for a url? Possibly there is a src file somewhere.
