I haven't posted any artwork for a while. Here is one I finished recently. The scene was a request, someone who wanted herself and her friend drawn as "Marvel style" superheroes.

After saving the day, they're having their photo taken by the local paper.

Thanks :) I'd hate to admit how long this one took me... probably in the 30 - 50 hour range (which is longer than I usually have patience for).

Absolutely brilliant Merrak. The textures, the scenery, the costumes - everything is spot on.

Thanks for the comments everyone

The person that requested this seemed very pleased! I've been doing these completely for free (just practice), so I can't imagine anyone would be too upset if one didn't turn out well. Although, I put this together for a colleague of mine as well - who is into comics and super heroes and seems to like my artwork.

It's really amazing how your art has progressed over the last couple of years!

Thanks :) I recently found a version of this scene from 2009.

I'm on my fourth year of self-study, and I still have a long way to go.

I'm glad to hear you're impressed - thanks for the encouragement :)

I have no clue what the usual time frames are, if there are any, for learning anything in particular. It's easy for me to get frustrated since I learn math so much quicker. Although that may not be true. I've studied the foundations of mathematics much more intensely, and for longer, than the foundations of art. Growing up, my brother was always the family artist. I rarely dabbled in it. Somewhere along the way he lost interest in it, but that was after I moved away.

These three drawings were done in Summer 2008, when I first decided I wanted to make an effort to learn to draw. At the time I was quite proud of them. At some point I decided I would have more options if I scanned line art and colored digitally. Soon afterward I found Griatch's tutorials. That's where I began.

Art is in many ways just as logical as mathematics. It just takes a lot of practice to apply what you learn effectively. I think that being a mathematician has helped you to understand art more quickly because of your logical mind.

I haven't thought about the logical aspects of art very much (although that certainly makes sense). Mathematics has a skills component that can only really be developed through teaching one's own self. It's a subject that can teach you how to teach yourself new things.

I must ask...why do all your characters wear boots?
