Out of curiosity, I created this poll to see if more people use gimp for photography, digital art or other things.

Edit: if you choose "Other", would you mind specifying what in the comments below? Thank you so much! :hi5

I wonder how to use gimp outside of photo editing & digital art, because, technically, digital art already encompasses a wide range of practices.

Oh wait, digital art implies art... the cursed definition of art again ? :D
With this in mind, I can understand how one may use gimp for something (an intent I mean) that is not, literally, art.
Amusing question, anyway.

I cannot exactly pick any of those....I use gimp mostly to create poster which usually use photographs or graphics that I change...so It's also like art but I don't actually draw anything or even create from scratch...let's just say I recombine bits and pieces from here and there.

I had to choose all of the above too. The "other" for me would be website graphics, including skinning//theming graphics and website logos or banners.

It's true. Many of us use GIMP for graphic design or similar things. And Design is not always related to Art (or Digital Art). I have no artistic talent, but I can achieve some humble designs :)

interesting topic !

for me it all started when i made videos for youtube and i needed a picture to combine with the music

i use GIMP mostly for making or editing coverart to display in my mp3 player but started making other things a while ago, and that is because of GimpChat

playing around with GIMP has become a hobby for me, sometimes i just do something for fun
i like learning new stuff and can be quite obsessed if i want to know something

one thing i dislike about doing stuff with GIMP is that sometimes, at least for me, is a bit purposeless, which is quite ironic
originally im a trained tailor (but never worked as one) but stopped making anything because its a very tedious process if you want to get it right
this is all easier with computers - there is always the undo button but on the other hand its all bits and bytes in the end and i miss the physical thing
maybe...this will lead me to get interested in making clothes again...who knows
full circle so to speak

Thanks for everyone's input! I guess what I should have done was add a few more options, like Graphic Design and All of the Above. Which should have been obvious because I personally use Gimp for graphic design, digital art and photography. My bad!

See my sig for created art. I also use it for general web site work, and icon touch up, etc.

Also use it when I need the "big guns" when dealing with family photos that picassa can't take care of.
