OK, I admit it. I'm fascinated by patterns and love to create them. It's almost an obsession with me. Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my patterns here.

In no particular order, here's the first one.



I created this pattern from a Queen butterfly's wing by cutting out a square section and tiling it. I like the stained glass effect.

Very nice, nature does create wonderful artworks.

Nice pattern. I usually cut out a square and mirror it using G'MIC's mirrored array before tiling. It looks like that's what you did too.

Actually, I've been doing the tiling by hand. I did install G'MIC recently though. I love using its dream smoothing and rotoidoscope filters.

Here's a smoothed rotoidoscope I created from the butterfly wing pattern above:



I call it "Fire Dragon Ring" because to me it looks like 8 dragon heads in a circle.

I see the dragon heads. Those are two of my favourite filters as well.

DebiDalio: nice patterns, especially the rotoidoscoped one! i love the rotoidoscope filter and all the different smoothing filters in g'mic . butterfly wings are a lovely pattern in themselves and when you mirror them you can get the loveliest patterns - have you tried running this photo through a kaleidoscope filter or a kaleidoscope program?

Is there a kaleidoscope filter you can recommend?

molly: i think that link is dead, i tried to download it for a friend not long ago without luck. has someone uploaded the actual script here on gc?
DebiDalio: if you don't find the kaleidoscope filter you might want to try this: silicon mirror it's not free, but you get a generous amount of evalutation time. i used to own a copy and thought it was worth every penny i paid for it.

The download link for that one doesn't seem to work.

It is a PS plugin , run well on xnview (on Gimp Pspi screw up the preview )

I guess these are all PS plug-ins PC. I wanted that eraser classic but it is a PS (8bf)

yes all PS plugin
but even in linux if you have installed first wine then xnview (for Windows !! for that you will need wine)
they will work fine

photo comix: no, i had never come across that plug-in, but i don't want to go to the trouble of trying to use a photoshop plug-in either - unless it produces perfectly seamless images, does it? my old friend silicon mirror dis and it had so many other nice features too.

of course. really pretty example too.

if i'd have to fix up images based on 3 i don't think i'll bother with that plug-in - that was the one i used most in silicon mirror and i prefer having it seamlessly. i suppose i will have to get hold of the developer somehow and see if i can buy a new copy.
