A scene from my Shrike-References to humanity. This is a remake of an image I did four years ago. The character has been
better established in other pieces since then. Looking back I was also not happy with her expression and of the window in general. She is in free-fall now, the window is flat, not curved, and the Earth is much closer. A lot of this was repainted from scratch. There are a lot of changes, including using MyPaint in the workflow. You can find a link to the old image from the DA version. At least *I* think it's better now.

UPDATE: After comments here and elsewhere, I made a few tweaks to the anatomy and to the light. Thanks for the feedback!

Some bits of mastery there as usual (reflections and transparencies, hats off), but the left leg has a strange geometry: the shadows in the joint make me see part of the back of the knee, which would mean she has her left knee folded in front of the right one (a bit like a young girl with a pressing need ) but then the foot should follow that rotation and so be almost perpendicular to the other one. Speaking of which they look a bit weird too (only one toe? or is it the suit?).

griatch: it's beautifully done as usual. i like the melancholic atmosphere in the picture. it's funny that ofnuts should say there was something funny about her left leg because i kept thinking there was something strange about the right leg . may be that's just because she's floating and not standing, though? the reflection in the window is lovely, really catches the eye.

After feedback I've made a slew of small changes to the anatomy as well as establishing the light a little more (letting Earthshine show better for example).

I see what you mean, I have the feeling it's more a matter of the perspective tricking the eye a bit though, especially since the other leg is obscured by the light and thus may seem to be much further back than it actually is (zero-g is an interesting beast here - there is no counter-pressure to the muscles, so just how will the muscles reshape? I wonder if anyone has really studied this). I'll need to hold off on changing the leg, to see if I start seeing it the way you do when coming back to it after a while.

Oh, and yes, the suit has only the big toe free.

Heh, those legs seem controversial. As mentioned to ofnuts, I'll let this image rest a while, getting back to it with fresher eyes maybe.
