Just felt compelled. lol

Started out taking the flat layer result from logo>glossy. Used many G'MIC presets such as Local Orientation, Anistotrophic, and Tone map presets, but also cheated a little and used Artshop's Irridescent filter (works great in GIMP via PSPI). Gradient mapped using a metallic gradient and also added Sparkle filter and voila.

I love it, you could use that technique for a new G'MIC logo!

I love it too Lyle. You should try that same effect on a shiny new car. It would be cool.

I could not follow all the steps.
Not used the Iridescent filter and have not found the gradient map.
Yet the result was interesting

akros: looks good! you find gradient map under colours -> map -> gradient map.

i don't want to use any filter i need pspi plug-in to use, so i tried to give my text some iridescent effects using just recoloured copies of the text layer and curves and layer modes - didn't work as well as i'd hoped, but just like akros i think i got an interesting result anyway. i'll play with this some more and see if i can get it a bit smoother.

Since it was in my GIMP gradient directory, I had assumed that it was a part of GIMP distribution but I could be wrong; attached the gradient Akros; just paste it in your user gradient directory (mine again was actually in my GIMP main gradient directory).
