i've had no luck with my letters lately :(. my plans for e were crossed by a portable hard drive crashing and my f just doesn't get anyhere. i decided to get on and let the f rest because i had clear plans for my g. then i ran into that map to objects-problem and i got so tired of closing down and opening gimp all the time to work wround it that i lost patience with the whole thing. this g isn't really as good as it deserves to be, but i want to move on now, so i post this anyway. g is for godchildren - the three i'm lucky enough to have are my most important source of inspiration these days. i may be tired and out of humour but a few hours in their company usually puts me in the right mood again and always leaves me full of new and fun ideas.

note: i haven't been allowed to post pictures of my godchildren on the web before, for ethical reasons. me and the two mothers involved have discussed the integrity issues concerning children on the internet and made an agreement that these three children at least should not become eye candy for complete strangers. i have now got the permission to post some of my pictures of them provided the children are not easily recognizable and the pictures are processed in a way that makes them bad material for morphing. i have also promised to warn everyone off the downloading and reusing of these pictures, and i know that the gimp chat crowd will respect this.

I think it's lovely. It expresses the theme really well.

erisian: thank you! i'm not really happy with it though. i know what i should work more on - the portrait in the lower right corner should be adjusted to fit in better with the overall colour scheme, the alphabet blocks should have been turned a little to make the text more readable and the small blocks should be colour adjusted. they also look like they're floating above the "floor" and i should fix that. i'm just too impatient to fix it all though, i want my alphabet complete and if i spend as much time and energy on every letter and have as much problems with them as on the last three i'll give up long before the end!

AnMal - Looks good to me but I can see the concerns you have now that you've mentioned them.

its a great composition, AnMal, and i dont even like children that much

the filters look very nice, the cubes are a great touch and the scribbling looks 100% real !
you are right about the perspective problem, but its just one minor flaw in the overall effect

important! i've edited my first post to put in a note on ethics that should have been there in the first place, very ashamed of myself that i missed it  .

he4rty: oh no, i should have kept my mouth shut :hehe . thank you, though!
esper:  don't like children?! that's like not liking food or oxygen or something. really, you techno guys  !
thanks for your comments, i'm actually growing to like this picture better and i have already started to make some slight improvements. if i get far enough to post the result i hope you'll take a new look, your perfectionism is often a great help.

odinbc: thank you :)! i'd actually never heard of the gerber company or the gerber baby, fun to read the story. we have a similar phenomenon in sweden, the baby boy on the solstickan matchboxes.

i managed to pull myself together and work a little on this. a little careful modification of the colours in the bottom right photo and a whole new panel with alphabet blocks, i didn't correct the perspective because i felt out of my depth there (i really need to practice perspective drawing again - haven't done it in about three years and it shows!), but i changed the layout a bit and threw in some shading to set off the letter blocks better and now it works better, i think.
