Graechan:
the H2O text was done with 'Valken' about 330px

Hive was done with 'Ash' 186px

but really i dont think the font matters much and i just make it so big that it fits my canvas (800x600px)

You know you could probably use a soap bubble brush or the soap bubble script combined with shapeism (G'MIC), to get a text with a bubble fill. :)

With this one i just selected the text, created a new layer and used Edit>Stroke with brush (Dynamics Off).
Small brush for outline then Select>Shrink 10 pixels and used a slightly bigger brush for the inside of the text and did another Edit>Stroke Selection with brush (also Dynamics Off).
I suppose to get an even better result you could rotate the brush for the inner selection. And maybe some bubbles floating up. :bigthup

Just an idea on bubble text.

On a darker bg it looks like this.

i think the problem with using a brush that then gets scaled is: it doesnt look very crisp in the end
and all the iridescent detail gets lost

i like the technique for smaller scales, where detail isnt so important
you can see the text is made from bubbles and thats enough for the size of the text

it would be perfect for a banner or a splash

I like the 3D effect of the bubbles overlapping each other for more depth. :)
A little unsharp-mask works wonders too.

Looks good, Rod!
Does the S at the end looks like a seahorse or is it my imagination?

Very nice tut as always Esper. One thing, the mediafire link to the xcf doesn't link, not sure if that's intentional or not and really doesn't have a bearing on the quality of the tut. Just thought I'd mention it.

esper and ek22: you two should take up fortune telling as an alternative career...
Image

bubble paisleys was of course what i started to think of as soon as i read ek22:s tut, then i had to experiment with those lovely things esper did with the rainbow effect (great job, brother!!!) so i wasn't ready to post anything till now. i'm still not happy with the bubbles, i don't get that soap bubble look that esper got on his by using plasma cloud and the g'mic water filter and also0 my bubbles look more like drops - but i still liked the look of this particular paisley so much i could post it. i put an extra set of highlights on the bubbles to help up the roundness a bit.

AnMal, i like what you did and looking at your result, you could make some grapes with this technique as well ;)

its true, yours look like drops, but i really like that !
maybe you should change the dropshadow a bit

how did you get the highlights that are on the side ?

ek22: it is adorable, isn't it? paisleys usually are. :hehe thank you!
esper: thank you! hmm, grapes, you say? i've never made a paisley out of grapes....
i wondered about the dropshadow. maybe if i make it larger and put it directly behind the drops/bubbles it will give the illusion of bubbles.
the highlights are just made the same way the other highlights were but with the light falling from the side, then i curve shaped them a bit and moved them a bit to the right.

I got rounder bubbles from not having a drop shadow outside of the bubble itself. All the shading and highlights I used in my original tut are inside the bubbles instead. Though on the rainy gimpchat banner, I did use almost the same technique with an outside dropshadow and it looks a lot more like drops there. Hope that helps.
