Hello everybody,
it seems I have to make a post to start with, so I guess I'll start here.
Thought I'd join since there always seems to be something, a script, technique or example, of interest here.
I would like to know if 2.8.6 will have ability to save (& possibly load) apngs built-in since it seems quite a useful animation format.

to Gimp Chat, HyperSphinx! I seriously doubt apng capability will be put into the gimp package for quite some time.

Welcome to GC HyperSphinx!

I'm 99.9% sure apng support will not be available in GIMP in the foreseeable future (if ever).
By and large, you don't need that in GIMP to make high quality png animations. Just install any plugin for gimp
that can save layers/frames as individual png files and go with APNG Anime Maker from there. Easier to use, more controllable, at the same time more robust and reliable.
