It was time for a new tutorial, but i had no ideas.

So i had a look at a Photoshop tutorial for making goldtext, but didnt like my result.
What i did like was the experimenting with different bevel-effects and in the end that became the tutorial.

I tried but ended up without the extra ridges effect, so I added Luce to fancy it up. I still don't have a good handle on Luce...can't seem to get the light to go in more than one direction at a time.

@Rellik419:
thanks and yes please ! ;)

@ 2-ton:
i think that came out really great ! :bigthup
what are the extra ridges ??

im not too fond of the Luce thing, maybe it would look better if it was behind the text ?
that way it would have some kind of 80ies vibe

I like that gold though, it looks like metal. Your gradients are tight as always.

@Graechan:
looks great !
i think the good thing about that font is that it has both round and straight edges
which again shows just chosing the right font for a specific job can be important

@EK22:
everything you touch is gold, lol !
how did you get the edges of the Noise texture to have that dark shading ?
different Satin ?
it looks great !

the gold i posted above is not the result from my attempts with the PS tutorial

this is what it looked like:
its way too green, and in this version it has two different bevels on top of each other
i couldnt get it right, because some of the PS elements just work differently than Gimp

the second gold effect just happened when i wrote the tutorial, i wasnt even expecting it to be so good
that was just luck :hehe

esper: i really liked your tutorial result, actually :). it looks more like my type of gold - slightly antiquated and without that ridiculously polished surface. i know how annoying it can be to not get the results you're after, though.

ek22: wow - you're a bit of a genius, aren't you? that looks just like the gold effect people are always after.

No satin at all actually. I started with a half grey inlay, grain merged a black and white gradient into it (light from the bottom to dark at the top) For the noise, I copied the grey layer, alpha locked, made noise at the highest setting on that, desaturated and grain merged from the top, so it's 3 layers into one. Then I did a little highlight in it bottom left and a little shadow top right all of it grain merged again and voila, we're golden. Oh and I didn't add the color until all the shades and such were done. The color went as an overlay at the very last moment.

That color you picked for gold though, my man, it is just perfect.

AnMal, you say the sweetest things. :oops: :geek
