Thanks everyone. It's a great little shop I found it in. The guy who runs it always tries to squeeze as much out of me as he can but we haggle a lot and I usually get a price I'm happy with.

Nice find Caz, I think it is worth something as long as you don't change anything on it. Maybe keep it in a nice glass case with velvet lining.
I'll definitely do something with it as it's survived all this time.

Can maybe take it to a watchmaker and get it fixed up.
I was thinking that myself. It's something I'm going to look into.

caz: i think it looks beautiful! old watches often are, like little works of art. and antique stuff does get your imagination going. did you take this particular photo of it? it's very nicely done.
Yes I took the photo and it's got a lot to give yet. Depending on the angle there are some great reflections in the casing of the dial and clockwork mechanism.

Its a lovely piece. Could it have even gone to war?
Wonder if you could get it restored...
That's what I was wondering, that maybe some American solider brought it over here during the first or second World War. There's no way to tell though.

Nice one, Caz.
I love finding old stuff like that at a second-hand shop or garage sale.
I love hunting for this old stuff too.

Oh my! I love genealogy and delving into transcribing 16 and 17 century records, a find like this to me would take me back on a trip. Who wore it, how did they live, love - what kind of life they had. Beautiful! Enjoy it and thank you for sharing your find.
My imagination can run riot when I find things like this, they would have so much to tell if only they could.

Caz - wonderful photo, the watch makes a great subject.
I'm really getting into the lighting and such like of still life objects. Still got a lot to learn but I think I'm making progress.
