Does anyone have any experience using Gutenprint (formerly called Gimp-Print) on either Linux or Mac?
I've already read lot's of documentation on Gutenprint, I'm looking for information on user results.

PCLinuxOS and gutenprint-gimp 5.2.9

looks like this http://i.imgur.com/Ovcgfs7.jpg

All depends if your printer is supported. You have probably been there but for others see
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Sup ... inters.php

User end results,
It all depends on the printer driver. The only ones I can comment on are Canon linux drivers which are dire. As the screenshot best quality is a measly 600 dpi.
Useful for adjusting the brightness for example and of course scaling an image is trivial.

I also have the advanced (paid for) TurboPrint, it does print up to 9600 dpi but does not like using black ink, so prints turn out muddy. The guy at Turboprint - no help at all.

To be truthful, except for DVD's I don't print much. My preference are for panoramas and for those, cheaper to use one of the photoprinting shops that are around.

I appreciate your input, rich2005.
I'm curious if it's still useful?

Yes, a different league from the regular Gimp print plugin. Takes the guesswork out of positioning for example. I believe that Epson printers have good drivers and work well with it. The problem with my old canon is the low dpi provided by the poor CUPS driver - no good for photograpic work. No problem with graphics in documents, posters etc.

It might be worth asking Rolf Steinort at meet-the-gimp. He was enthusing over a new printer a couple of months ago and I know he uses TurboPrint which is just a (not very) enhanced gutenprint.

In my curiosity lately I've also been reading about PhotoPrint (for Gutenprint) and CMYKTool both by Alastair M. Robinson, the author of the original CMYK separation plugin for GIMP.

Worth noting the windows gimp-gutenprint, although have not tried it for a while
examples of it http://i.imgur.com/YqBZW.jpg (Gimp 2.6) and http://i.imgur.com/2FVb3.png (Gimp 2.8)
some references

Not much updated, although you can use linux printer definition files.

CMYKtool is an excellent conversion utility, makes good CMYK tifs and jpegs.

A little bit about it towards the end of this http://youtu.be/2rby7r771D4

also PhotoPrint is in the PCLOS repo, tried it but do not really use it so can't comment.
