I wondered the same thing I had to cheat by making my luce layer with some transparency. I also don't know how to get rid of the dark luce. I wonder if there's a way to just keep the brighter luce.

colour to alpha is one possibility
or a layermode...when your bg is black and the lightrays are white, using the mode 'Screen', will result in showing the white only

layermodes are complex - it takes a while to understand how to use them

and you are pretty good for not knowing much ;)
your triangle art is most impressive !
