i played around with some kind of envelope effect in Inkscape and then wanted to try to bevel the text
so i did it with Lighting Effect as in the Rifts tutorial that molly did yesterday, because you get so great colours

thank you tea-drinking-mate !

its really that simple: Lighting Effect, nothing else

i use a 50ies grey text, then apply Lighting Effects with three lights
one pointed in the middle of the triangle and two directed, one from the bottom and one from the top
all in different colours

for the bumpmap a blurred channel (6px in this case)

the shadow is done by blurring with different values: 130 vertically and 16 horizontally

esper: that is a nice bevelling technique, i like the colours. i guess i'll have to practice a bit with the lighting effects, i haven't really made friends with those yet.

The text effect is very nice! - But I think that the triangle thing on top and the halo type thing on the bottom throws off the balance a little bit. But that could be my eyes. :>

Nice work! :D

not sure what you mean with balance, Moko

i felt the triangle is a continuation of the angle, the letters form
without it, it looked like something is missing

i didnt plan the whole thing at all
just played around with the envelope effect and got this
then build the other stuff around :)

mokonafan and esper: here's what i thought when i looked at the text image: the middle letter happens to be a p. to make the whole thing perfectly symmetrical and balanced it should have been something like an i or an a. i blocked the lower part of the p and it all looked perfectly symmetrical to me, i let go and it does look a bit off balance - not so much it's disturbing, but enough to be noticed. if i had made this i think i might have ditched the halo, even if it's a nice looking detail, because it sort of underlines the slight unbalance the p in the middle makes.
