Wow that is Gorgeous.
It was probably the enviro map along with the wave tool and the glitter as a combination and you got yourself a winner.

I know some one who is going to like that Avatar. :teeth

Good tutorial, all went well.
though can't remember what was done afterwards as i saved it, installed the enviromap.scm script and restarted Gimp.

anyone know what filter /effect created it ?

Hi sandgroper. Glad to hear you found the tutorial useful.

I'm not sure what filter you used to the get the effect you have there, but the effect can be duplicated by offsetting a white text layer above the bump map layer (20px gauss) and setting the white text layer to overlay mode.

You can then use that as a bump map to generate some interesting results. Using that as a bump map in the tutorial, I get this result.

Using a different environment map and mapping the bump map itself, then running the lighting filter for a 2nd time, I get the following.

Outstanding, what an amazing script. I don't think there is an end to what it can do.

GnuTux, your explanation seems correct.
just checked the saved .xcf file, the grey-scale GIMP text has been offset, the red text sits in the same position as the darkened area on the text.
strange!! as i didn't move the layer.
is it possible to save a grey scale image as a font ?

I just created a disaster but it opens itself up for some more pondering.

I wouldn't call it a "disaster." I think both of those have real possibilities.

Thanks Mike. I don't even know what I did. I started with Tux's XCF then did some gradients and layers, but anyway, it now looks like some kind of Gothic stitching on some kind of fabric...

The fonts we normally work with are scalable vector fonts, which can be resized without loss of quality, whereas bitmapped fonts cannot. You'll need to use a different application to actually create fonts.

You can save images as brushes in GIMP, so that might be an option for you.

Interesting effect, just using your standard pool reflection image as a emap. Plus some tweeks along the way. :)Image

Wow, you have to show me how you did this one. It hurts my eyes, it is so shiny.

I just used an image like this...Image as the emap in lighting effects. I did darken it at first in Brightness and Contrast.

After that, I duped the image that it made and ran the make 3d script on the dupe. Moved it below the original, duped the original again and moved it below the layer with the 3d script ran on it. Changed the color of both top and bottom layers and left the middle one alone.

After that, it was just a matter of tweaking with curves, brightness and contrast and levels. That was just tweaking to what I felt looked good. Mostly experimenting.

Another envir map using Rellik's blue water pattern. Didn't have the nerve to try all those steps you did Rellik.

Been having a play around with the Enviromap and 3D Extrusion filters, plus following this tutorial, and I came up with this. Thanks Tux for all the filters and tutorial btw.
I think the logo and text are a bit blurry, they still need more work, but I'm quite please by the direction this is headed in.
