Try to paint this in Gimp.

Here is running my water ripple filter on a grey gradient with plasma, then repeating it using edge detect. Looks a bit iceish!

Pretty cool, RobA.

I overlayed your image with a pattern.

A few attempts from the same pattern with lighting and gradient overlays.

Still not day light yet but my branches are all still almost touching the ground. I hope no more snap off. Dam stuff.

I live in Brazil, Molly. I saw the snow for the first time at Paris in 1989 and never had the chance to see it again.

Well except for watching it out the windows, it is a pain. Just went to the toys r us store and it is closed because of the storm with electrical problems, A toy store being closed 2 days before Christmas is a catastrophe... lol.
I wouldn't mind being in Brazil until about April first.

Just watching 6: o'clock global news. There are over 300,000 people without electricity in Toronto. All the ice is still on all the trees and will stay there until we get a thaw. It is said there won't be a thaw until almost a week, so the trees can still come down all over because of the weight and strain of the branches.
If the winds come up, it will even be worse. I keep watching mine and you can hear the ice crackle all the way to the tops,
Anyway, we will take each day at a time.

Here are some pics I just took. This isn't snow on the branches, it is ice. Lots of big branches down but haven't been around the rest of the city to see what all the damage is but it isn't over yet.

Those photos say it all, that's no joke.

I'm in the southern hemisphere too, and snow sightings are non existent in my vicinity.
Sorry for all those inconvenienced by the weather.
We will be having a nice sunny 34C 93F for Christmas day :hehe

I hope you don't lose power, Molly, it gets mighty cold with no heat! Everyone is wanting their power back on for Christmas, so all the power company has crews out 24/7.
