If I see well, the main downside of gimp compared to photoshop are layer styles, in my case - bevel and emboss. Is there any good, step by step tutorial, how to create this effects in gimp?

There is an scm script and a python plugin that does this called layerFX.

GnuTux, on your example image I can see some traces of blue color over the gray drop shadow at the bottom side. Is it deliberately or... ?

I didn't post an example. You must be talking about my signature image. I didn't use LayerFX for that. I believe the blue you are referring to are icicles.

If you download the scm version and put it in your user scripts folder, you are ready to go but if you choose the python version and you haven't already got python installed, you will need further instruction.
