Is it the Shadow and Highlights script? If so, how do you make it work to get those highlights? I tried it, couldn't get anything like that.

Thanks for highlight script, Graechan. I hope you don't mind but I added several options, allowing for more control over the final result. I added the following...

Highlight Color Option
Highlight Opacity Option
Merge Option
Bump Map Parameters to Allow For More Granular Control Over Light Direction & Highlights

Looks like another tag team effort. :bigthup

Looks very nice Molly, the highlight script simply uses gimp's bumpmap to create the highlight shape you see around the edge of text when it is bumpmaped then everything else is deleted
so playing with these settings can effect the shape and position of your highlight
so try altering and see what happens

Of these bumpmap settings the main one to adjust is Azimuth as it controls the light direction, by default it's set to upper left

@Molly - Here is a pretty cool little visual of Elevation, Depth and Azimuth.

3D Extrusion - Release V2.3

This script extrudes the image or selection in a given layer or layer group, while maintaining the original layer or selection. By default, the original layer or selection is positioned just above the extrusion. This allows you to use the original as an "End Cap" , which can be tweaked to add contrast/effects to the extrusion. If "Overlay With Pattern" is checked, an additional layer containing the selected pattern is added just above the original layer and set to "Overlay Mode". If "Extrude With Pattern" is checked, the original is layer is overlaid and merged with the selected pattern, which is then extruded. This results in the original layer being "Patternized" (not a real word). Selecting both "Overlay With Pattern"" and "Extrude With Pattern" can result in the pattern more effectively wrapping around the edges of the extrusion, if that is the desired result. Duplicating the pattern overlay several times and merging the duplicated layers together, can result in a more pronounced pattern overlay, but the result may require some contrast/lightness/saturation tweaking. Don't forget to set the duplicated and merged layers back to "Overlay Mode".

If "Merge Extrusion" is checked, the original layer is merged with the extruded layer (pattern overlay is not merged with this operation).

The Bump Map options are used to add light, shadow and depth to the original layer or selection, before it's extruded. This is necessary to add needed contrast to the extrusion. Tweak/Match the Bump Map parameters to the extrusion type & direction for best results from this script.

Features
Directional, Shrink & Zoom Extrusion Options
All Bump Map Options On Entry Screen
Ability To Create A Pattern Overlay & Extrude With A Pattern
Option To Merge Extruded Layer With Original
Layer Group Support In GIMP 2.8.x
Backward Compatible With GIMP 2.6.x

Download 3D Extrusion V2.3 from GIMP Scripts.

The script is located under Filters/Render/3D Extrusion...

Please feel free to post any comments, suggestions or questions. I hope you find it useful.

As often as I try this script, I can't get the text fat the way yours are Tux. Here is what I mean below.

Molly,

Set the Extrusion Type to "Shrink" for that effect.

Thanks. Image

Thanks this is some better. I will try it later with a different font. I don't like the way this one runs together.

I've found that when I use the Shrink option, it's better to widen the letter spacing in the font dialog, so the letters don't run together as they extrude and shrink. I suppose there could be instances when you actually want that effect, though.

I was going to do that but I wanted to get all the text on one line without making it any smaller. I guess I could widen the canvas size.
