Probably a dumb question. I'm sort of stuck on 2.6. However, I have recently been giving 2.8 a go. Starting to like it more. Anywhos, when I download a python file for 2.8, where do I put the file? In my 2.6, I have a folder titled "Python", but I don't have one in my 2.8 version user folder. Do I create a folder, and name it Python? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but since 2.8 has Python built in, I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

By default, Python plug-ins should be placed in the plug-ins folder.

If by downloaded a python file you mean a .py plugin it will go into your preferences/plugins folder usually C:\Users\user\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins
Gimp 2.8 comes with all the necessary files to run python plugins whereas 2.6 didn't

No need to have a Python folder in .gimp-2.6 User directory either.

Since Python in gimp is used as a scripting language (through the python interpreter),
it's more correct to call .py files scripts, but they have to reside in 'plugins' folder.

Hey!!! :hoh
FYI... I do have Partha's Portable 2.8, I just haven't gone with a full 2.8 install yet. I'm going to get a new machine soon and this may or may not change.
I'll never give up my 2.6... :yes

Haha, I hear ya. Love my 2.6 version. I also have the 2.8 portable. I've been trying to acclimate myself to it more. The wave of the future and all. Before ya know it, the scripts and plug ins won't be available for 2.6 anymore.

lol, I still have 2.6 stashed on my computer, too, but I have weaned myself off of it completely and just use 2.8 now. Maybe it's because I use Partha's McGimp and it's a gem. Only problem is, I totally forgot how, or if I can, replace the current Gmic for the newest version, so I am missing some nice effects.

@ wallace and erisian, I am not going to give up my 1927 ford either. I may not be able to replace the tires, because they no long make them that size, The rims, well out of the question.
I wouldn't miss my air-conditioning, power windows, doors, heated seats, lumbar option, sun roof. :teeth

If I had a 1927 Ford that was running fine and doing everything I want it to do, I would consider it a waste of money changing it for anything else, especially if the new alternatives had fiddly controls and ran slowly and the engine didn't make any sense. :teeth

"You should really update to the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500". :hehe

I get the same response from people when I tell them that I'm still using my Gimp 2.6.
