Hopefully, I'm posting this in the right section.

When I get done with a project, of course it's in several layers. When I want a drop shadow, I merge the visible layers, make a drop shadow, then save a copy. When I'm done, I undo the drop shadow, then undo the merge visible layers, because when I save it as the .xcf, I want all my separate layers.

I think it would be cool to have a script that duplicates visible layers, and then merges the duplicated layers. That way, you would have the layers as a whole, plus still have the separate layers. Hope that makes sense.

Perhaps there is a way to do that, without having to duplicate the separate layers individually, then merging them. Thanks.

It's already there: "Layer/New from visible".

Yeah ofnuts is right. If you do "Layer/New from Visible", do your drop-shadow on the new visible layer, then just save as xcf. You'll have all the layers plus a layer with everything and the drop-shadow.

Thanks man. I wondered if there wasn't something I was missing. I need to spend some time, and actually read the manual.

You don't need no stinking manual, just keep hanging out here. ;)
