MrQ add-on Manager

Yesterday I installed the Improved MrQ add-on Manager that ofnuts had originally posted. View Original Post Here

I am posting how I completed the process.

With some help from Molly I was able to find the original post, download the zipped files, and get it installed and working.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit, so if someone who has Linux would please post the specifics for their system I would appreciate it.

After downloading the zipped file (I have attached ofnuts' file below) I copy pasted the addonCollectionManager-tracing.py file from the folder into the Gimp plug-in folder, which can be found at C:\Users\Username\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins

After I had moved the file into the plug-in folder I then went back to the Gimp folder (C:\Users\Username\.gimp-2.8)and created a separate brush folder named brushes_storage. I moved all the brush files and/or folders from the default brush folder into the folder that I had just created.

After all of the brushes had been moved, I opened Gimp.

I then navigated to the Brushes Dialog box.

I right clicked on the square in the brushes dialog box, then selected Brush Sets from the menu.

After selecting Brush Sets from the menu, the Brush Select Manager window opened. I clicked the box next to the name of the brush sets that I wished to use.

The brushes were then loaded and I was ready to go.

Very good DarkNaomi13, Our hard work paid off. Kudo's, maybe this should be added to the tutorials since mine is now obsolete and deleted since MrQ is outdated and revised

Where's the add on manager download at? I see the link in the op, but it appears the download page isn't there anymore. The attachment above only has a text file. Thanks.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or have an old download, something. This should still work with 2.8 portable, correct?

Warrior did you remember to edit the configuration part of the Manager

#################
## User Config ##
#################
ACTIVE_DIR=r"C:\Documents and Settings\Marek\.gimp-2.8\brushes" #<<<-----SET ME<<<----- (Directory to hold active sets, select Writable in Preferences)
INSTALL_DIR=r"C:\Documents and Settings\Marek\.gimp-2.8\brushes_alternate"#<<<-----SET ME<<<----- (Directory where you place your sets - in subdirectories)

EXTENTIONS = [".gbr", ".vbr", ".gih", ".abr", ".GBR", ".VBR", ".GIH", ".ABR"] # Valid brush extentions

################
## End Config ##
################

Sure did. This is 2.8.4 portable I'm using. I have it in C:/gimp-2.8.4/.gimp-2.8

Then I added the brushes_alternate to the end of that.

BTW, I was following this example: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5676

Is it the old brush manager you have or the newer resource manager

Probably the old one. I didn't realize that a brush manager of sorts is already built into 2.8 though. Works great.

Hi,

Just a question. Is there any advantage using this brush manager over the brush tag feature already in Gimp 2.8?

mainly the speed of Starting your Gimp with a resource manager your only loading active resources, I have 560mb of resources in my manager but at the moment I have only 15mb loaded

You don't need the -tracing version. The latest version (available here) will create a log (addonCollectionManager.log in your Gimp user profile).

Read the doc carefully here: http://gimp-tools.sourceforge.net/managementtools.shtml in particular the notes about registration.

of-nuts, thank you, works great, I want to get all the ducks in a row so we can revise this thread we will make into a tutorial. I have already taken down the original MrQ tute to ward off confusion.

EDIT: ofnuts, I spoke too soon. Just tried to change my brush sets and it sticks on the deactivation step. The blue line just sits there and so do the brushes. :gaah

ofnuts I have your original manager working great across several Gimp versions by having my resources all in a folder in the C:/ directory these are then sent to a folder in my User/user directory and my preferences
in all my Gimps are set to pick them up, I use the same .py and .ini file in all Gimps.
Because it works I'm unwilling to upgrade or change

This I achieved by editing only the .ini file including having all my resources appear under their own heading of Resources thank you ofnuts for a perfect Resource Manager

I have tried deleting the plug-in-def down to and not inctluding the next plug-in-def.
I opened Gimp and I can click brush sets and I get all the brushes I select. Then when I want do deactivate those brushes, they won't deactivate, the blue line sticks half way over and the brushes stay there.
I went back and deleted the whole plug-rc, opened up gimp and the same thing happens.
Everything was working great until I removed the "addonCollectionManager-tracing.py" and replaced it with the newest one without the tracing in it.
Is anyone else having this problem, or just me?
ofnuts, Should I go back to using the tracing.py, which works?

EDIT:
I deleted the new plugin, re-inserted the tracing one and it now works flawlessly. I will stay with this one unless I hear otherwise what is wrong with the new one.

I had the same problem that Molly had when I tried the new plug-in. Like her I also went back to the tracing one which I had no problems with.
