Hi,

I've just finished updating Gimp Book, a plug-in for working with comics and other multi-page documents, such as illustrated childrens books.

I've fixed, or rather written my way around, a nasty bug that only affected Windows users, and was introduced with Gimp 2.8.6. The bug would crash Gimp Book every time you tried to choose a destination folder. Gimp Book should be working correctly on Windows. :)

In addition I added import and export support for OpenRaster .ora files. This is a great format if you want to jump between Gimp, MyPaint and Krita, and keep layers intact. I've been playing around with the beta of Krita 2.8 lately, and find it's really nice for drawing and painting. It's a great companion to Gimp, both having their different strengths.

You can get the plug-in from my site http://ragnarb.com/toolbox/gimp-book/ or from the Gimp Registry http://registry.gimp.org/node/25975

Hi,

This seems wonderful. I hope I can use it for multiple passport-size photos, too.

Yes, that should work fine. Anything where you need multiple images of the same size, works.

You would probably want to set it to Storyboard Mode, in the View menu in the plug-in. That way the page thumbnails flow to the entire width of the window, instead of being just in two columns like facing pages of a book. :)

Ragtag, Thank you for the update. Gimp Book is a very clever plug-in. I found an additional use for it, keeping project files together.

PS, I have an Uncle who lives in Norway named Ragnar.

Thanks for alerting us to the script. I was not aware of it before, so now I have something new to check out.

I've updated GIMP Book again. :)

I've fixed a couple of bugs, but the biggest changes are probably zoom, so you can view your thumbnails at different sizes, and an option to create margin and bleed guides when creating a new book. I'm planning to do a tutorial soon on how to set up a comic book in GIMP for printing, that will demonstrate how you can use them.

Here is a complete list of changes since the previous version:
- Changed versioning to use the more standard, major.minor.patch.
- Added zoom to the page preview, so you can display the pages at different sizes.
- Rewrote the thumbnail generation, and moved thumbs into the book folder.
- Storyboard mode and zoom level are now saved with the book.
- Fixed a bug where exporting non-flattend xcf files, would still flatten them.
- Fixed the layout of the New Book window.
- Added support for defining print resolution when creating new books.
- Added option to create margin and bleed guides on book creation

As before, you can get it from here.

To install it, you just unzip the content of the .zip file to your plug-ins folder. The plug-ins folder is in /home/YOU/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins on Linux, and on Windows 8, you will find it in, C:\Users\YOU\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins (on WinXP it's in C:\Documents and Users\YOU\.gimp-2.8).

You need the book.py file, and the icons and locale folder in your plug-ins folder. The rest is documentatiotion and license info, which you don't need.

If everything is working, you should find a 'Book...; at the bottom of the Windows menu in the GIMP.

Obs...found a small bug where margin width didn't include bleed, so wasn't correct. A patched version of the plug-in can be found here.
